What on earth do you make of the new music video by The View??

I really liked this upbeat, chirpy song whilst listening to it on the radio and the radio DJ said it was a big contrast to the video which is really dark. So I went to youtube to watch it and am disturbed! I don't understand the reasoning behind this? Is it an arthouse thing?

Basically the video shows a bloke going to various places and having very sick fantasies about every woman (and eventually man) that he sees. The end of the video is of a woman with a clear bag tied over her head and him with blood on his hands and face. It's fucked up.

I think its about how damaging porn can be - women stop being people and you become desensitized. Anecdotely the more porn someone watches/reads etc the more extreme fantasies they engage in to get the rush, hence the axphixiation (sp) at the end. Of course this is not always the case and I actually think fantasy and porn can be good for a relationship.

That's kinda what I thought about it but I am still shocked. And i'm still not sure!

I'm guessing the moral of the story is that too much porn and self gratification turns you into a sadistic pervert that has no respect for anyone, and I suppose it does have a shock value to it.

I personally don't like the song or the video. But that's irrelevant.

Is it too hopeful to think the point the director was trying to get across was that porn leads to the objectification of women and normalises violence against women?

But then... yeah... Using VAW as a selling point for record sales, especially when the record has FA to do with VAW is a big "no-no" for me.

Ok I've just watched it despite me not likeing The View - they are too bland for my taste.
The video makes more sense with the sound off. A tale how one can get hooked on porn and it can screw your perceptions of RL up.

The song is shit.

I think for a song with a video message Metallica did it better with their version of Turn the Page

Now that is disturbing!

At least the lyrics in Turn the Page match up to the imergery in the video (and turn the song into something completley different than Bob Segar's.

Not sure about The View's song though!!
