A poster on another thread said she views feminism as the struggle against patriarchy. That is how I view it too. I believe that is considered the rad fem stance?

Another poster said she didn't believe in patriarchy

I don't geddit

Why/how are women so unequal if not for patriarchal societies? WHO has been oppressing us?

Please tell me what you think, if you don't believe in patriarchy

She was asked to bring a man. How is that not evidence of making decisions based on sex? What else could that mean?

2. afterwards i get a very odd call from the one women saying i 'should bring a man to the next meeting' and my meeting comments seem to have been strangely misinterpreted to allow the 'logical selection' of a competitor (males).

So this one woman who we know nothing about speaks for all the people in the meeting? Seriously, that makes you take it as sexism. No wonder you see sexism in everything. It's there if you want to see it, it's not there if you don't. Question is how do you know it really existed that scenario. Critical thinking anyone?

Portofino · 11/06/2012 21:32

And the important thing is WHY do women oonly make up 30% of the workforce? My company is extremely family friendly. It's not the employment practices (I don't think). The question is why are there not more women doing degrees in this subject?

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 21:34

For a myriad of reasons Porto, not just patriachal society.

Portofino · 11/06/2012 21:35

Ecletic, could you face that the woman is speaking for the people in the meeting. And even if SHE IS NOT, she, herself, considers that a man should have come to make proper points. A woman presenting at a meeting doesn't count....

Which reasons? Why do girls not do IT degrees?

AbigailAdams · 11/06/2012 21:37

Critical thinking???

Grin

Yep there is certainly a shortage of that from some.

I'll just reiterate: SHE WAS ASKED TO BRING A MAN.

It never ceases to amaze how people are unwilling to name male supremacy for what it is.

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 21:38

I have never had men oppress me from song anything, apart from one abusive partner and I let him as I was so shocked by his tactics. Maybe our experiences are what help us define feminism. In fact I would go so far as to say, the majority of people who have supported me are male. So you know, they are jot all bad :)

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 21:39

Look up critical thinking, then look up bias :)

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 21:41

Porto, her opinion is not any more valid than the others in the meeting, but no one asked them their opinion.

FrothyDragon · 11/06/2012 21:43

Oh wait, EclecticShock is denying the event happened in that manner. Or at all.

I get it.

"Wimminz Liieeeeee"

I'm off to deal with my essay. You know, the one where I have to write on one of four sources, all created by a men, from a dossier which is composed of nothing but texts by men.

Tell a lie. There's a page of Simone de Beauvoir in there. But only because a page of her chapter was on the same page as the end of a man's chapter...

But it's more bearable than hearing another woman being accused of lying. Again.

AbigailAdams · 11/06/2012 21:44

Oh don't start on bias please

Basil, you're denying facts of life... It's not all about I'm a woman so that must be the reason for any type of negative situation I experience. Narrow, myopic view.

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 21:51

Dittany, read my posts, and you will see that I do, howeve I don't believe it's the basis for all human interaction.

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 21:52

That should say, I do believe in patriarchy but...

FrothyDragon · 11/06/2012 21:53

So... now feminists are narrow minded.

Gee, thanks...

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 21:54

Frothy, you are quite ridiculous in what you add to the discussion.

Portofino · 11/06/2012 21:54

ES - Why do girls not do technology degrees? Your answer, please, not Google's.

RulersMakeBadLovers · 11/06/2012 21:55

"but sometimes i see men group together in a way that leave me very uneasy" Tilly - me too. And if one doesn't see that, I suggest that one either doesn't mix much in predominantly male company (where a particular woman's opinion doesn't count much) or one has blinkers on. Because it happens all the time, across all classes and cultures.
