A poster on another thread said she views feminism as the struggle against patriarchy. That is how I view it too. I believe that is considered the rad fem stance?

Another poster said she didn't believe in patriarchy

I don't geddit

Why/how are women so unequal if not for patriarchal societies? WHO has been oppressing us?

Please tell me what you think, if you don't believe in patriarchy

sometimes you need to foster a bit of myopia

I recognise that on a personal level...just acheiving day to day stuff....

Eclectic - In real life of course I talk about other oppressions. But this is the feminism forum so I talk about women and patriarchy.

Bejeezus - Mumsnet made me a radical feminist. Well actually the posters on here and the links, arguments and info they provided did

Beachcomber · 11/06/2012 13:18

with all oppressors of women

Who/what are these mysterious oppressors?

bejeezusWC · 11/06/2012 13:20

I say I didnt know I had radical feminist tendencies until a few threads ago EBL It wasnt much earlier than that I realised I was a feminist!

someone posted this for me on the thread where i 'came out'

I love it!

Well, that is not the impression I have formed about rad fem from listening to the posters who proclaim to be it. So something is amiss with the message somewhere and I think the term patriarchy has a lot to do with that.

bejeezusWC · 11/06/2012 13:21

I find spiders pretty oppressive

Alameda · 11/06/2012 13:23

what makes you a feminist then eclecticshock? I'm not good at names so apologies if I've confused you with another poster but I thought I read something about feminism being too 'black and white' for you once

bejeezusWC · 11/06/2012 13:23

sorry eclectic what is not the impression...?

OP posts:
EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:27

Sorry, that was in response to EBL post at 13:15

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 11/06/2012 13:28

bejeezus - Thanks I will read your thread when I have a bit more time - trying to work at the moment!

I had assumed bejeezus from what you posted that you are a radical feminist - so clear tendencies there. Yes its great to have a space to haer these arguments and raise questions and put your point of view.

Alameda · 11/06/2012 13:28

might have been someone with similar posting voice actually

Beachcomber · 11/06/2012 13:28

What I don't do, EclecticShock, is get personal with people because I don't agree with them.

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:29

Alameda, I said rad fem ideologies from what I have read on here are too black and white for me, yes, as I have been posting about with regards to kyriarchy rather than patriarchy.

Beachcomber, there is many posts on this forum to the contrary.

EatsBrainsAndLeaves · 11/06/2012 13:31

Eclectic - I can't speak for every radical feminist first off. Secondly I do know other radfems have posted here about fighting a range of oppressions that affect women including disabled and poor women. And finally this is a feminist forum, of course women are going to post here about things to do with feminism and the patriarchy.

So I haven't posted here about the ways I have supported the fights for lesbian and gay rights, although i think it is very important. I have been involved in both action and giving money to this. But I would only mention this when it is directly relevant to feminism.

Portofino · 11/06/2012 13:32

Well I read Beachcomber's posts and thought they were eminently sensible...Confused

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:32

Hot, you obviously don't understand my point as I agree with your point :)

I keep asking who dominates the power structures in this kyriarchy but nobody seems to want to discuss this.

(Sorry to not be Sensible At All Times but is anybody else finding it amusing that when they type kyriarchy it gets the spellcheck red line of wrongness and the only proposed correction is patriarchy?)

EclecticShock · 11/06/2012 13:36

Hot, I'm not grasping at anything, thanks. I was making an observation and explaining that I agree with you. Nothin to say I can't agree with one of your posts? Wow, looks like agreeing or disagreeing with some people is a problem. It's a hoot here.
