Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Radfems and transsexuals – an outsider’s view

NoviceProFemGuy · 03/06/2012 12:56

I?ve been reading the recent threads discussing feminism and transgender, and pretty challenging I?ve found them too. As an outsider, though, I can?t help thinking a lot of the radfems? concerns aren?t, in reality, an issue when it comes to the practicalities of how men oppress women.

This is going to be a bit of a long post, so to save it all appearing at the top of subsequent pages (assuming there are any) I?ll put the meat of it in a separate post below.

Tut, dittany's not very ladylike, is she...

Must... conform... to patriarchal expectations of women...

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:27

are you doing it on purpose now?

StarsAndBoulevards · 03/06/2012 17:28

And why is it only dittany who gets picked up on this stuff?

bloody hell, don't venture into AIBU; your head would implode.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:29

AIBU ? i thought this was the hardcore section? AIBU is easy compared to here !

Pan · 03/06/2012 17:29

Stars - you're muddying stuff here - the diction used by the reporter wasn't/isn't in contention.( Lord knows there's enough sexual assault cases where standards are low). The vast vast majority of men will know that a sleeping woman can't give consent. This was never a reported defence, but that didn't stop your link thing.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:30

dittany gets it because she hands it out, she treats other peoples sentiments with impunity, i have no sympathy for dittany.

amillionyears · 03/06/2012 17:30

I have agreed with the chair up to now,but your language needs to be a bit more spot on.
Offending is offending, whether stars is fragile, or not fragile in the slightest.
And the use of the word enveloping was inappropriate.

NarkedRaspberry · 03/06/2012 17:34

'dittany gets it because she hands it out, she treats other peoples sentiments with impunity, i have no sympathy for dittany'

Really? For someone whose first post was today you seem to know an awful lot about MN.

WidowWadman · 03/06/2012 17:34

"I don't find them telling me how I can tackle the issue of abortion or FGM. This is all we expect of our male allies on MN. But we rarely, if ever, get it."

Why shouldn't men have an opinion on how to tackle abortion issues or FGM? If you have an interest in tackling something, then it's pretty normal to also develop ideas on how that's best achieved. Should a good male feminist just shut up and leave the women to do it all by themselves, just because he's got the wrong set of chromosomes?

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:34

enveloping was the terminogy used by the radical eminist in the link we were discussing!

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:36

was my first post today? i would do your research before posting BS

"This is all we expect of our male allies on MN. But we rarely, if ever, get it."

and who exactly are these male allies? It's no great lesson to learn that as a rhetoritician, as posters usually are here, it isn't best to generally 'distance' and 'mock' those people who would appear to be offering to be allies, albeit not very well explained. (as a non-feminist don't count me as an ally). This prob. goes for a lot of the rest of MN as well.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:43

b) we take offense at different things. Men talking about "enveloping' in the context of a rape. Ugh. What can I say? I needed to express my disgust.

read, man quoting radical feminist's article linked to the thread

i have known you insult people dittany.

i dont care how foul your mouth is , you can say fuck all you like i dont care, it's just when you play all upset in the same sentence as though your sentiments can be so easily hurt even though you can hand it out so well.

NarkedRaspberry · 03/06/2012 17:43

Funnily enough I only searched the last 3 years. Thanks to your heads up I went back further.

3 posts on one 2007 thread.

So why not use your usual name to have a go at a poster you have a grudge against?

NarkedRaspberry · 03/06/2012 17:44

Easier to hide behind a ghost name?

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:45

2007? you must be joking, where are you getting this from?

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:46

i've been here for about 18 mouths under this name

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 17:46

in 2007 i diddnt even know about MN

NarkedRaspberry · 03/06/2012 17:49
