Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Radfems and transsexuals – an outsider’s view

NoviceProFemGuy · 03/06/2012 12:56

I?ve been reading the recent threads discussing feminism and transgender, and pretty challenging I?ve found them too. As an outsider, though, I can?t help thinking a lot of the radfems? concerns aren?t, in reality, an issue when it comes to the practicalities of how men oppress women.

This is going to be a bit of a long post, so to save it all appearing at the top of subsequent pages (assuming there are any) I?ll put the meat of it in a separate post below.

It does not.

it implies all rapists are men.

This is basic English Language...

Only rapists think all men are rapists.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 16:12

a child is more likely to suffer physical ( not sexual) abuse from a woman than a man. fact.

women should stop abusing and beating children!!

see how it sounds now?

NoviceProFemGuy · 03/06/2012 16:12

Dittany ? thanks for the advice. I?m not a big Guardian reader, but I?ll make more effort to do what you say, and other similar actions.

Clearly I?ve made a bit of a prat of myself here. But I will learn from the experience. And I do genuinely care, as much as a man can, about the injustices women suffer at our hands. :)

Women aren't the only people who abuse children, though. And I'm still awaiting evidence on this...

But if you bear in mind the number of women who raise their children singlehandedly, it'd probably work out, that, if childcare was 50-50, men would still be doing the majority of the abusing.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 16:15

you havent made a praat of yourself novice, you have simply made the mistake of assuming that people fighting for equality would treat people equaly.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 16:16

maybe so stars , children spend more time with children, but it's still a fact, google it.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 16:17

sorry, women spend more time etc

Agree with thechair.Cant see the point of upsetting a man who comes on here, trying to help feminists.Just dont get it.

StarsAndBoulevards · 03/06/2012 16:23

Actually, Chairman, this may be of interest to you.

Doubt it, though, seeing as you're intent on demonising women...
www.thelizlibrary.org/liz/statistics.html It's the first link I got, which didn't come from an MRA's source.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 16:36

well, i havent read it right through, i'm semi afk but as you rightly diddnt chose an MRA source as they clearly have an agenda you chose the liz library! and they dont have an agenda do they?

are they not mixing the numbers of sexual and physical abuse together to get that result?

theres a book called 'how to lie with statistics'

and 99% of statistics are made up just before they are spouted.

i dont want to demonise women btw stars, i like women, well most women anyway.

thechairmanmeow · 03/06/2012 16:37

i have allways thought that the radfems and the MRA's have more in common with each other than they might think.

enimmead · 03/06/2012 16:38

Strange - a thread about transexuals on FWR is not about transsexuals.

:)

It's called adjustment. The stats as they stood unaltered were false statistics. If you read to the end, there's a breakdown of the likelihood of each type of abuse, according to the sex of the caregiver.

Stats, where provided, have to be proportional. Saying 60% of abuse comes from women, when 96% of single parents are women is a false statistic. Therefore, it has to be readjusted accordingly.

Feminism would look more reasonable to men if we got back in the kitchen, made them sandwiches and let them do the talking... Grin

EthelMoorhead, tried reading the link, didnt get that either.
Perhaps it doesnt matter.

amillionyears · 03/06/2012 16:48

posts of 16.39 amd 16.40

StarsAndBoulevards · 03/06/2012 16:50

I mean, hell... According to men, even sleeping women can consent trigger warning

Sorry, Amillion, I'm not sure if that's the stat the MRA's are using atm, but it's very marginal.
