Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Was anyone else outraged by the clerics comments on Question Time last night?

All the blame was focused on the victims involved in the recently reported grooming case. Apparently the way the girls were dressed and the fact they were out at night was the causen for them being repeatedly gang raped.
And what on earth were the comments about 'having sex for a packet of crisps'??
I am appalled.

"another example ,( sorry dont mean to derail the thread, or avoid discussing more inportant matters , as i have said, we are all in agreement about the rapists so there is little to say about them)"

I'm a bit boggled at that TBH.

This has been very interesting. I particularly like the point about prompting men (in this instance) to stop and think about whether they reallyu understand what rape is and whether they've done it.

Can I hazard a suggestion that the problem Chairman is having is this: we are all in agreement about the rapists so there is little to say about them

The point, I think, is that we absolutely SHOULD have a lot to say about them. That's the whole point about reorienting anti-rape education to something more effective, focus on the perpertrators.

Which isn't necessarily an easy point to get your head round, and I only recently came to understand it myself.

Oops, just noticed the time stamp, that'll teach me to catch up on a Monday!

"Tell me I asked for it."

Even if a girl is provoking a man, there is still no excuse for him to do such a terrible thing. That's like saying a child deserves to be killed just for crying and making their parent stressed. There is no excuse.

The thing is, we are not all in agreement about the rapists. Most people do not recognise what a rapist is. When a feminist tells them, they are shocked and outraged and accuse her of believing that all men are rapists. When in fact, she's just describing a bog-standard rapist. Rapists have got to define what rape is, which has enabled them to carry on doing it, so whenever anybody else contradicts their definition of rape, it feels strange, unfamiliar and wrong. Ched Evan, Julian Assange, Dominique Wotsisname, are all excellent examples of this.

Very true Basil. To many people rape = stranger pulling drunk/skimpily dressed woman who is foolishly walking in a secluded area on her own into an alley and raping her, when in fact that rarely ever happens.
