And your male partner/DH/DS's driving licence. The photocard ones.

Do you notice anything about the names? I noticed this the other day and it made me feel a bit Hmm

AXURE: It's attitudes like that which are going to set Feminism back to the dark days of the 1990's! Get a grip. Also, you might feel more at home on another section.

AbigailAdams · 10/05/2012 08:58
Hmm
Alameda · 10/05/2012 09:16

oh mine says Ms in daylight!

it is all very strange isn't it? wonder what their reasoning is?

moonbells · 10/05/2012 09:25

Mine's Dr Moonbells (and it's reminded me of how awful my photo is!)

Dunno about DH, but he's just a Mr Grin

ShirleyKnot · 10/05/2012 09:34

Mine says Ms.

Interestingly though on my bank card it just has my initials then surname - that used to be Ms FirstName Surname as well.

Poledra · 10/05/2012 09:35

MrsBranestawm, shouldn't your DH's licecnce say Professor?? Grin

dollygag · 10/05/2012 09:35

We should all burn our licences!

Hervana · 10/05/2012 09:39

Yes let's all burn our licences! Grin tis bollocks

WheresVinick · 10/05/2012 09:39

Mine says 'Ms' but DH's is out of the country with him. I'm glad it's got my title right, but can't see why we need to have ours when they don't need theirs...

grimbletart · 10/05/2012 11:42

Mine also says Mrs Grimbletart. Husband's is just his name

On the other hand our cheque books say Mrs (initials) Grimbletart and Mr (initials) Grimbletart in that order. And we have been with the same bank for at least 30 years. So even back in the days of the dinosaurs official organisations weren't necessarily always sexist.

It probably came about because we had separate accounts in different banks and then decided we would also have a joint account and we decided to have the joint account in the bank I banked with.

But at least that was encouraging..perhaps the DVLA is going backwards...?

SardineQueen · 10/05/2012 11:54

What? What? What what what?

But Why? Why? Why why why?

Why would they make that decision?

GAHHHHHHHHHH!

MrsBranestawm · 10/05/2012 11:59

Poledra, yes! Bit showoffy though.

Alameda · 10/05/2012 12:08

can someone find out so I can find something else to distract me from what I should be doing?

mentioned it to a few people and they were just 'so?'

obviously it is not as if they are removing our clitoral bits or whatever but it's WEIRD isn't it? why the difference? where did the idea come from?

SardineQueen · 10/05/2012 12:14

well look here

here

Seems a bit suss to me
If you fill in an official form and it asks for title, you put a title. You just do.

I do not believe that men leave this field blank on official forms as a general matter of course.

dollygag · 10/05/2012 12:18

We should march to Swansea and burn our licences!Who's with me?

SardineQueen · 10/05/2012 12:21

Ummmmm

I'm afraid my diary is fully booked for the next 4 years and I have a phobia of places beginning with the letter S.

Soz about that, let me know how it goes though Grin

dollygag · 10/05/2012 12:23

Ranting? That's a bit harsh but looking back I might have seemed a little brusque so I apologise.

Thanks Dollygag, Alameda Sad. I hadn't realised that something like titles on driving licences would make some people so angry. I agree that it should be the same for men and women, how do you go about getting this changed do you think?

Alameda · 10/05/2012 12:44

don't know

just wish my tits were big enough to sag

Alameda · 10/05/2012 12:46

oh my goodness, I don't think I meant axure, I think I meant to address dollygag

am just going to back away from The Internet, intriguing as the whole DVLA thing is . . .

SardineQueen · 10/05/2012 12:46

Dunno.
Lots of official stuff like this.
A lot of people have had real trouble with the passport office (I think it was) as they put down Ms and the passport office said if they were ms they must be divorced and to provide previous surname and then when people said they didn't have a previous name there was a huge "computer says no" lockdown thing and people were having trouble getting passposts (was it passports? something like that anyway) out of them as they were lying about not having had any "aliases".
