Anyone want to remind John Lewis that girls go to Beavers as well?

beavers girlswear

GiantPuffball · 05/05/2012 20:15

read the description as well, that link just goes to the same trousers in the boys section too.

Could you just spell out the problem (the link in OP isn't a link IYSWIM). All Beavers stuff is unisex, and in my local store there is no sex-related signage and it's in the (mixed sex) school uniform section.

They don't carry the full range, though. My current gripe with them is they have no belts at all.

GiantPuffball · 05/05/2012 20:29

"Official Beaver/Cub activity trousers in navy. Featuring an internal waist adjuster, button and zipper fly and longer leg length to keep boys comfortable. The leg pocket includes an inner pocket, ideal for keeping mobile phones safe and secure."

So they have misplaced an item / described it incorrectly.

I'm not feeling terribly irate TBH.

meditrina · 05/05/2012 20:35

See what you mean.

It's very poor copywriting - longer leg length has nothing to do with comfort. And it would have cost no effort to say "child" or "Beaver" rather than 'boy'.

I do sometimes think it must have taken someone extremely unsocial to come up with the name 'Beavers' in the first place.

SardineQueen · 05/05/2012 20:39

I suspect the put the items in the boys section first and put the blurb up, then linked the same page from the girls.

i am sensing an oversight rather than a sexist conspiracy.

Mind you JL can do no wrong in my eyes Grin

GiantPuffball · 05/05/2012 20:39

It's about perception though, isn't it, like my fil objecting that my Dd was going to Beavers , and "that he was pleased it was like that in his day"

OP posts:
GiantPuffball · 05/05/2012 20:40

My OP wasn't that irate. It does need fixing though.

GET. A. LIFE!

SardineQueen · 05/05/2012 20:44

If you contact them I'm sure they will amend the text / remove that item from the girls section.

GiantPuffball · 05/05/2012 20:46

No need to shout, Thierry'sboyfriend

OP posts:
Blatherskite · 05/05/2012 20:48

Total non-issue. JL have just been a bit lazy with their copy writing. Meh

ThierryHenryismyBoyfriend · 05/05/2012 20:55

But honestly, is it worthwhile getting worked up over something so petty?

GiantPuffball · 05/05/2012 20:56

It would be better to have child rather than boy. Beavers is for both genders.

OP posts:
ThierryHenryismyBoyfriend · 05/05/2012 21:02

But what does it matter?

SardineQueen · 05/05/2012 21:32

Well if you contact them I'm sure they will change it.

They know that beavers is for both sexes, having links to the uniform from both the boys and girls pages.

I am really not sure what the problem is here.

I don't think it will take more than one person (ie the OP) to get it changed though!

Which is why I think people were a bit Hmm at being asked to mail them about it. It's hardly a situation which requires the harnessing of the group email power of teh fem section!

Weasar · 06/05/2012 16:06

Oh my god, who cares? When I was a kid my brother went to beavers and my sister went to rainbows before they were old enough for cubs/scouts and brownies/guides respectively.
I actually cant believe someone is getting so worked up about one word on a website.
