this sort of stuff. Also the "people who bought this also bought..." link looks good. Someone linked to it on another thread.
So can you get ALL the assorted tat? Nighties, toys, T shirts etc?

I can recommend The Paper Bag Princess, Princess Knight, Pirate Girl, Princesses are not quitters, Cinder Edna and Not all princesses dress in pink.

When she gets older there is the Wrestling Princess, the Karate princess, the ordinary princess, the extra-ordinary princess, Rapunzel's revenge, the practical princess (and other liberating fairy tales), Princess Polly to the Rescue, The farthest away mountain (about a girl who wants to be a princess but decides not to be after meeting the prince), Ella enchanted, the wide awake princess.

Doesn't look like you can get t-shirts of princess smarty pants but you can get ones like this. I just got lost on that site....if only I had unlimited funds I'd buy it all like these and this and this (so cute) .

The Little Princess series by Tony Ross is also quite good and untwee.

DS is three in September and he loves all the ones in my first paragraph (plus the little princess ones which I completely forgot about.) He inherited them from DD who read them about the same age.

DD (6.5) has read all of the ones in my second paragraph, some of them when she was 4-5, some of them I think she will get more out of when she is older. I forgot to add this one too

R2PeePoo · 17/03/2012 18:54

BTW in DD's very very tiny princess stage I had to sew a sword loop onto her dresses - she was so influenced by the Princess Knight (funke) and Princess POlly to the rescue (lister) that she was baffled by all the other little girls who said they were princesses but didn't carry deadly weapons.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 17/03/2012 18:55

Yep, The Little Princess series is pretty good, our DD (2yo) loves them.

Zog by Donaldson/Scheffler has a great example of a princess who dumps princessing and "silly frilly dress(es)" in favour of being a doctor. The knight who erroneously tries to rescue her also asks if she'll train him up as a medic. Great fun.

Princess Smartypants is ace. I am a fan. Hope your dd likes her.

Those T-shirts are ace!!

Thanks 5madthings, my daughter is obsessed with robots. She is currently writing a K9 and R2D2 adventure story. My name is my son's attempt to join in with the fun but with toddler pronounciation.

Another good princess is Princess Leia - she disguises herself as a bounty hunter to rescue Han and is a pretty good military general and leader, she is General Leia in episode 6. She also doesn't simper or sink into the background. Her mother Padme is pretty forceful and impressive too as queen. There are lots of other fabulous women in Star Wars-we have the Visual Dictionary, the character dictionary and the Lego Star wars dictionary and there are many more characters than I remembered.

*many more female characters than I remembered
