How amazing. I never thought about this before - how really poor women manage their periods. How horrific and how terrible that these women are so locked into this taboo that they could not talk about it and were even afraid of this man trying to help.

How brilliant, thanks for posting this

Seconded!

caramelwaffle · 23/01/2012 23:16

Inspiring!

Bossybritches22 · 23/01/2012 23:16

Absolutely heart-warming.

What a star he is, a double whammy of increasing the physical comfort and health of some of the poorest women plus training them in a skill that enables them to earn a good living.

The end paragraph moved me to tears.

Thanks margo

What a great story. Now THAT would make a great movie - except that it never will, because people would think it too disgusting or too funny.

Bless him. What a difference he has made.

solidgoldbrass · 23/01/2012 23:19

Great stuff!

LeBOF · 23/01/2012 23:26

Fantastic- and very moving.

margoandjerry · 23/01/2012 23:34

Thanks for loving it! I've been wanting to talk to someone about it all day ...but have been at work with men all day and they just wouldn't get it and would think I was being weird and making a point and trying to scare them and blah blah blah. (Obviously I would have been trying to do all of the above as well as just wanting to celebrate this man Grin) .

It was buried on page 57 of the Observer....reminds me of when Gordon Brown abolished VAT on sanitary protection. It was not in the budget speech - too embarrassing to say out loud. The announcement was buried in the accompanying documentation. Still he gets points from me for caring enough to do it at all.

Thanks for linking that margo. I don't know about medals, but if MN ever institutes an honours list, don't forget to propose this man.

There is so much we take for granted.
We need reminding sometimes.
