Woman jailed for being too traumatised to testify against violent boyfriend

The attack had put her in a coma. She testified once then the trial collapsed because the judge was ill.
When will they stop punishing victims like this?

That is fucking outrageous - even more outrageous because it comes on top of a series of cases where women victims have been punished while dangerous violent men have been set free or given pathetic sentences. The would-be killer must be laughing his socks off.

That judge should be removed, and should have to issue a public apology - but I bet neither happens. If we had racist judges treating victims of racist crimes like this, there would be an outcry and the attorney general would be rushing to change things. But it's only women...

What on earth was she doing with a loser like him , never mind having his children ! When will women learn to stay away from potential violent men .....their not hard to spot .

But seriously do some people think that all the violent abusers are walking around with tattoos on their heads exposing their violent ways, and any woman stupid enough to get involved is just asking for it. The victim blaming just gets worse and worse.

I saw this and was hopping mad.
I cannot believe there's not a mass public outcry.

The legal system in this country was made by men for men.

Sadly nothing surprises me anymore. The judge is as bad as her ex. He just assaulted her in a more refined manner.

You complain that the number of convictions are too low then complain when steps are made increase prosecutions.no doubt you'll complain about him being allowed to walk free should he do it again

totally outrageous!!!

This happened to a friend of mine. He was kidnapped and robbed by a well known local thug. He had to sit in the crown court waiting area with said thug's family who threatened to kill him if he gave evidence.

The judge read out his full name and address in front of thug's family (well known local mafia). Who were all sitting in the public gallery. He has had a complete breakdown, he was unable to speak in the witness box he was so afraid (he was just 18 when this happened). The police arrested him for not giving evidence.

The ironic thing is that the police could have arrested the person with all the weapons and evidence on him if they had made the effort to go and pick him up at the time.

The perpetrator got off and is still walking around free - responsible for most of the crime in his local area..

Yes, this judge should be removed.

Good to see the Mail and most of its commentors on the compassionate side for once. It would be lovely if the judge was fired!

Whenever I read cases like this, I wonder how the judge treats women himself. Lots of people don't take DV seriously. Many people think feminists are bitter, men-hating harpies. But the vast majority of them would still be appalled at the treatment this woman has received, so why did the judge think it was ok to do this?
