Tv is quite frankly infuriating

Hi, new to this section. Recently im finding the world more sexist- i think it's a case of me noticing and not just the world getting worse. Anyway, I have began to notice the camera angles, when a woman is on screen- walks into shot always scan her body. The movements are always more visual on her not her actions / face etc. Simply watching the baker brothers vs nigella is enlightening!
The baker brothers- both v attractive- focus not on their looks but their food/ actions yet nigella is all about her sexuality.

Also toys- I have 2 pre school dd's and her main toys or 70's fisher price (dp's originally) as most toys are so pink/ gender stereo typed.

Also (I know I'm ranting) you never see any dieting advert aimed at men! Do they not need to loose weight?

Also why as women are we so distrustful of other women- not men. I find it really sad that a new woman showing up for the school run (especially if she appears attractive) is greeted with suspicion, yet a man seen as going above and beyond the call of duty- for gasp taking his own child to school Angry
And breathe Grin

I'm getting fed up with TV at the moment, too. I know what you mean about the scanning thing ... I keep noticing how often there's a totally pointless, lingering shot of cleavage or arse or something. It's funny, because it passed me by for ages (well, it didn't but it didn't annoy me) ... then once you notice it you can't un-notice how weird it is.

Just watch breakfast tv if you want to get really annoyed.

I totally agree, in fact I have made myself not watch any tv for the last three days in an experiment to see if I can/want to make it permanent.

Plus the cat sprayed all up the back of it today showing that he is obviously in agreement too :)

Quite interesting so far, feels a bit disorienting but also liberating - as if before it was an ingrained feature of my evenings and activities and like something that had to happen at some point.

Anyway, that's not what this thread is about so I shall shut up now.

I will add though that this section has heavily contributed to my experimentation - adverts being one of the main reason - the constant sell sell sell especially to women and in our case primarily geared towards the self-improvement 'look how wrinkly your underarms are, quick, make sure your smile doesn't age, cover this, dye that, buy that' and on and on and on.
