letting the MRA trolls win

Seems to me like this is what has happened.

Yes, the attacks we had from MRATs were appaling. Yes, MNHQ's response was disappointing, to say the least.

But has it really come to the point where we are so sceptical that we justify ourselves spouting venom at each other?

We namechange to protect our privacy but it leaves us vulnerable to attack from within ourselves.

How is this not letting them win?

If they wanted to 'divide and conquer' then they have surely succeeded Sad.

Personally, and I understand why this might not be the choice for others, I'm going to stay. I'll keep fighting the partiarchy, in whatever way I can. I have nothing to prove to anyone else. I'll keep namechanging to keep under the MRATs' radars even if means I'm flying solo.

what a spitey spite op

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 19:03

maybe it makes good lip balm? or is good for removing hair?

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 19:03

are we being smart arse facetious bitches again? nest of bloody vipers i tell you.

TheRealMBJ · 29/11/2011 19:04

I must say, that I gphaven't really been around on the Feminist board since MNHQ's statement. I've been really busy in RL (what with having a baby and all Grin) but I really feel like I can't be bothered with the Feminist board in here after that.

I'm really still learning about feminism and felt like this was a safe space to explore in but don't really any more Sad. Not because of the genuine, existing posters but rather because of the proliferation of MRAs and other trolls

TheRealMBJ · 29/11/2011 19:05

But, basically, I don't really know what I'm talking about because I haven't been here but that was my feeling before 'leaving'

LRDtheFeministDragon · 29/11/2011 19:08

Could be, Saf. Btw, after that conversation on the Wellbeing thread about lip balm I mentioned to DH that someone mentioned the best stuff was actually cracked-nipple cream. I wish you could have seen the look of utter horror on his face as he stammered 'but how would you crack your nipples'.

Grin

Moving on ... it occurs to me I may look a little peculiar if I don't clarify my earlier comment with a reference to one of the oddest threads I've been on in the past few days and an excellent example of why not to buy into patriarchial beauty practices ...

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 19:09

have barely been here either thereal.

call me old fashioned but i would prefer to talk feminism in a feminist orientated space. not one that rolls out the red carpet for misogynists.

it has spurred many on to up their activism and feminist networking and support in rl though so that's a positive side effect.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 29/11/2011 19:09

Cross-post - sorry you're feeling like that MBJ.

FWIW, I think it's actually been much, much better recently. It'd be lovely to see you around more.

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 19:10

x posted lrd - we've done anal bleaching on here somewhere as well i think. not literally of course. there was some talk of toothpaste Hmm

TheRealMBJ · 29/11/2011 19:15

LRD, Lansinoh is ACE for chapped lips. Really works brilliantly and 100% natural. (also the only thing I've ever used mine for so I can confirm that the shelf life is over2 years) Grin

LRDtheFeministDragon · 29/11/2011 19:16
Shock

I take it back, I'll have the venom.

Yama · 29/11/2011 19:17

I remember the MRa invasion but not MNHQ's statement.

I go through phases of posting/reading but not posting/not mnetting at all.

I think that the departure of a few insightful and passionate posters has hit this section. In that sense, the MRA's might have won. However, this section will evolve. There are enough of us left and we will (when we have time) contribute to an informative, supportive and nurturing board. I hope I'm right.

I haven't seen any venom by the way.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 29/11/2011 19:17

MBJ - yep, that is exactly what I was told! Grin Now, how well will I have to hide the bloody stuff so my mother doesn't root around and find it on her next visit, I wonder?

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 19:18

i have a 4yo and a tube of camilosan Blush do you think it goes off?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 29/11/2011 19:22

I'm sure you'd know by smell/texture if it had.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 29/11/2011 19:23

Might be a bit unhygenic if it's been opened though ... bacteria thrive on anything at all wet.

(Sorry, kind of derailing this thread but I suppose it demonstrates we're not all busy venoming each other).

LeBOF · 29/11/2011 19:43

The interesting thing about the boards going very quiet after MNHQ rolled out the red carpet for the trolls made their statement that this wasn't a safe feminist space, is that the man-trolls fucked off too, because they weren't getting any attention. If that isn't a ringing endorsement of a Hide Poster option, I don't know what is.

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 19:47

if we all start talking properly again here they'll be back in no time.

then when we try to ignore them or argue with them or whatever else we do it will be wrong and we'll be slagged off by mnhq and others.

can we be arsed?

the imaginary royal 'we' that 'we' are assumed to be that is.

TheRealMBJ · 29/11/2011 19:48

Yy BOF. It certainly is.

Back on the Lansinoh thing Grin

AFAIK lanolin is antibacterial. And I have seen this suggested as a receptacle into which to decant said lanolin for discretion.

MillyR · 29/11/2011 19:49

Which is the best nipple cream for chapped lips then? I always have chapped lips but have never had cracked nipples. Sorry if this is meant to be on another thread.

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 19:50

they do do lip balm tins under speciality bottles.

alternatively empty out one of your old ones and sterilise.

bacteria is everywhere. we'll survive.

swallowedAfly · 29/11/2011 19:53

for the good of all i have just applied kamillosan to my lips. can confirm it feels very soothing and calming and gives a slight tingling sensation. though that may be the bacteria. will tell you results as they come in.

AyeBelieve · 29/11/2011 19:54

MillyR, then you should do to your lips what you do to your nipples. Grin

AlwaysWild · 29/11/2011 19:54

Venom is best Milly. It soothes those lips and fights the bacteria at the same time. There's some on the floor you can scoop up I think.
