www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/why-equality-is-a-distant-dream-girls-boys-and-the-real-differences-between-them-2367805.html sorry to post and run got stuff to do.

IT's very interesting, if depressing.

It was nice to see the lads in the case studies saying positive things, but the cynic in me can't help wondering if they actually belive it or just know it's what people want to hear.

It's also good that the girls are able to recognise the discrimination around them, rather than just beliving that this is the way things are, it might encourage them to take a stand.

A sign of hope - I was teaching at a primary school (Y3) the other day, when word came round that the boys were going to be taken out for football practice. Now that in itself was an issue - why just the boys? But leaving that aside, one of the boys stood up and said 'What about x? She's really good.' And he was genuinely shocked that this girl wasn't given the chance. With lads like him in the world, we maybe, just maybe, stand a chance of changing things.

That's really good to hear wicketkeeper - I've noticed that even by preschool a lot of children already have it ingrained that x is for girls and y for boys. Nice that he was just interested in her ability.

A really good video about the way boys and young men are encouraged to view women just came up on FB.
I post it here with a hefty trigger warning.

I wish there were more articles like this. There are so many women who just dont see the inequality all around us, or see it but dont see how it applies to them. It is very sad.

WoTmania · 15/10/2011 08:18

margerykemp - some women, like my mother Confused don't see it and when it's pointed out don't think it's really a problem anyway Hmm.
But yes, encouraging article that I think we need lots more like it.

Coming to this belatedly, but have linked to it on Facebook. I hope to have time soon to read the whole report.
