Sexist or clever parody?

There is a bit of male totty in there too. But I had to close DH's jaw for him yesterday when I caught him drooling over it.

Yes, you play it on every thread where someone disagrees with you... Get's a bit boring for the rest of us...

CristinadellaPizza · 30/09/2011 18:01

FFS sm - if someone was arguing the earth was spherical on FWR, you'd argue it was flat.

Beyond tedious

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 30/09/2011 18:08

Grin Can we have a like button, just for Cristina's post, please?

scottishmummy · 30/09/2011 18:14

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 30/09/2011 19:39

So in other words, you support misogyny, exploitation and tax evasion...

Excellent. Welcome to the feminist board Hmm

Super. You have no ethical issues around how you shop. Delighted to hear you don't give a toss.

Now you've shared that with us, do you have anything else to contribute? No, didn't think so

i shop by product, price, and its desirability to me.that includes virgin, and top shop as i like the product.certainly if anyone wants to flex their economic clout by shopping with chosen retailers thats fine. many boycott nestle- i dont. i buy school uniform at asda, drink coffee in starbuck

Debenhams,
M&S
Primark
and Next all regularly cited as unethical. i shop all those stores
it doesnt render me less ethical than anyone else. it does mean i make an active choice what i wish to spend my money on,and at what financial cost to me. i suppose i could pay more, get less but, i dont want to

it is v difficult to shop ethically in uk,most retailers are cited on some list as breaching something.

essentially im not perturbed by this.at all

CristinadellaPizza · 30/09/2011 20:03

No it isn't rubyrubyruby. But it is a thread to discuss the ad and given you haven't seen it, I don't know how you'd do that. But you might be able to find it on YouTube. :)

Reality - I do know what you mean. I think it's one of those ads where the irony isn't quite ironic enough from my POV. I suspect a lot of viewers aren't as sophisticated as you are

southeastastra · 30/09/2011 20:04

i get more worked up by those awful ads aimed at women like that 'planitherm' one, that really does make women look like idiots

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 30/09/2011 20:08

I love it. Loved the 80's one too with the housebrick moblie etc.

southeastastra - yes I saw that one today for the first time - absolutely God awful.

scottishmummy · 30/09/2011 20:28
were they ever that big?

virgin airlines were a breakaway from the norm of big corporations that was why they were so successful

shame he shut his record shops really.

i worked in advertising too so probably am a bit biased. (bill hicks would want me to kill myself) Grin

scottishmummy · 30/09/2011 21:10

certainly spend your money as you wish.thats the whole point
power of capitalism is to exert ones financial clout
whether that makes one more worthy, well that's debatable, but do as your conscience guides you

That is one sexy advert...'just clever enough' to avoid being totally misogynistic.

The Virgin Upper Class experience seems to be all about tweaking the ego of the (predominately?) male business traveller. You pull up in your car or cab, gorgeous uniformed woman greets you by name, tends to your every need etc etc.

Better than the previous advert, I think.

Ironically, one of my female friends from primary school is a female pilot for Virgin - apparently having started as cabin crew. So they are willing to promote from within.
