"DSK Case Exposes Rifts Between Feminists"

Lucy Wadham claims to be a feminist. So why is she dubbing those of us who believe DSK is guilty of rape as "Man-Haters"?

Hmm

Any thoughts?

'if you choose to believe otherwise i don't know that i would necessarily think you not a real feminist but i probably would think you exceptionally naive/thick - does that make it clearer??'

So people who don't agree with you are 'naive and/or thick'?

I think the man is a sleeze ball and I hope his political career is over. But suppose, for the sake of argument, that she thought she could have sex with him for money and went ahead and then he didn't give it to her? So she then went to the police? Still not rape. Nasty, exploitative and sleezy on his part, but not rape.

DontCallMeFrothyDragon Hit a nerve I see. Welcome to the Internet

skrumle I'll work on the basis of reasonable doubt - and I find it very unreasonable to believe a powerful political figure would dare tarnish his reputation by raping with a hotel maid. As it's known that women can and do make false claims then she may have lied. Not definitive, she just might have

Until then i'm siding with DSK

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 02/09/2011 21:55

Of course you are edd, dear. Wouldn't expect anything less from you - despite the evidence to the contrary.

Portofino · 02/09/2011 22:03

All i can say is that after reading the prosecution's statement on another thread, I can understand why they did not procede. That is not to say at all that I don't believe her, or that DSK is a nasty piece of work.

edd1337 · 02/09/2011 22:06

I would expect nothing less from you siding with the maid - despite the evidence to the contrary. This is a feminist forum after all.

This is going to sound really harsh and cruel, but in some ways i'm glad the rape laws are how they are, or "unfair" as you put it. If we had it your way then all it'll take is a false accusation and the man is faced with an angry mob wielding pitchforks and petrol bombs. No defence or anything, just put away forever.... over a false claim

I have got work tommorow quite early now you mention it

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 02/09/2011 22:21

but instead, we're stuck in a society where only 6.7% of rape claims result in a conviction. Yeah. Real fair judicial system we have.

What, are 93.3% of women lying?

Oooh, we'd be really happy about it.... Hmm

No, I'd be happy to see every single rapist jailed. Then the rest of the men who remain out of prison can teach the next generation what being a decent fucking human is about.

Tut tut, he doesn't have a very high opinion of men, does he?

Are you a rapist, edd?

OP posts:
AyeRobot · 02/09/2011 22:36

[tongue in cheek]Maybe pitchforks and petrol bombs would actually assist in bringing down the number of rapes.[/tongue in cheek] The justice system seems to be doing a very poor job of it.

Maybe women like Lucy Wadham should align themselves with the equalists and leave feminism to those who recognise that we're a long way from equality and accusing feminists of man-hating is just spouting the same old patriarchal nonsense.

edd1337 · 02/09/2011 22:39

no dittany, you are putting words in my mouth again (not unusual on this forum). I was saying that if it was your way you'd lock up all men accused of rape even if they didn'tdo it

ok that post was not clear. what I should have wrote was you'd be happy too see falsely accused men suffer you'd do nothing to help the falsely accused or punish the false accuser. the accused men would be guilty until proven innocent

DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 02/09/2011 22:47

edd, the false reporting rate for rape is between 3 and 6%

Only 6.7% of reported rapes result in a conviction.

So, out of 100 reported rapes, if we say those "false report victims" are discounted, we're left with between 97 and 94 rapists. Of those - well, we can't have 2 thirds of a man go to jail, so we'll say 7% get a conviction. Bear in mind the innocent men have already gone free. That still leaves between 87 and 90 rapists on the street. And guess what. They'll rape again.

Do you get why we want better rape convictions yet? Hmm

of course. I hate rapists as much as you. I want real rapists In jail. if a law is in place where when are guilty until proven innocent; it can and will be taken advantage of
