Just seen an advert for "How does she do it all?"

Anybody else think this is going to be a massively annoying film? Has anyone read the book? Is the premise as awful as it sounds?

Oops I mean "I don't know how she does it"

Errr ..... the book was quite enjoyable. Don't think I'd bother with the film though. It was a holiday read some years ago twas fine from what I remember. Why?

It just conjured up this image of a woman trying to do everything at once and everyone else standing around saying how amazing she was but not picking up any of the slack. I did just look it up on amazon and the description didn't fill me with much hope! Listing all the things she was "coping with" and including marriage - why should marriage be a "coping with" thing unless her husband is rubbish?! And also one reviewer said that the main character was "stupid" because she couldn't have marriage, a family and a career. Men seem to manage that without worrying, it's pretty shit that women still can't.

I might be just being grumpy this evening, it just sounded like it would be annoying.

The book was oddly touching.
The film has SJP in and looks deeply annoying. I saw a trailer when watching Zookeeper with DD. For the record, Zookeeper, also shite .

That's my critical analysis, anyway.

I thought the book was surprisingly good, funny and sensitive. And I really don't often like 'chick lit' type things. Was interested in seeing the film until discovered SJP in it. Can't stand her.

I enjoyed the book

Can bear SJP doing 'kooky child/woman' though, I agree

I don't think men can be super-humans and do everything brilliantly just as women can't. But they, in my experience, don't feel guilty about this or rush around crazily trying to please everyone (and pleasing no-one). They tend to set out their priorities and stick to them and that can lead to women picking up the slack, esp. over housework (I don't so much anymore, but hate the chaos that has engulfed us).

I loved the book. I think the film has Hollywood-ised it up the ying-yang though. Probably won't bother with it even though I am the one person left on the planet who likes SJP.

Also, her house is lovely, plush and has lots of room. She has a husband and nice healthy kids.

Not quite reality for everyone. :(

I actually don't mind SJP, so might give this film a go.... If I can get someone to mind DS so I can get out to cinema.

Having loathed SJP since LA story, I'll give this one a miss.

Read the book a few years back - it raised my class hackles more than my feminist ones back then.
Nobody with a professional class husband worries about the price of one rotten pear, ffs.

But yes it is interesting from a feminist point of view.
