Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

You don't have to be feminist to post here, but it helps...

I've noticed that whenever a 'non-feminist' view is brought up, there are occasionally some posts along the lines of 'this is a feminist board, why come here if you aren't...', etc.

Genuine question - is this a feminist board, or a board about feminism? Obviously the majority of posters are feminist, but I'm not sure whether that is because feminists (surprise surprise) like discussing feminism, or because it is seen as a feminist 'safe haven'?

Do the chickens all wear dungarees and have hairy armpits?

Report
DontCallMeFrothyDragon · 26/08/2011 18:32

yup. No wonder the ducks don't want to mate with them. :(

Report
giyadas · 26/08/2011 18:33

no, I'm genuinely all 'what about the duckz?' which are clearly better than chickens who are aggressive and smell, though I manage daily not to go to chicken keepers and tell them so, cos it's rude Wink
despite the slurs about lying ducks made openly here Shock

My chickens wear flares. But they don't have armpits. Because they don't have arms.

Those chickens need to put high heels and a bit of make up on, if they want to look attractive...

I'm not sure the American Heritage Dictionary is the most reliable source for defining feminism.

HerBeX - I think some of the clashes are where people are coming at equality from different angles, but sometimes to treat 2 people exactly the same disadvantages one of them. The AHD made no mention of this.

I agree with Len et al. This is a feminist board and posters should expect that subjects will be treated from a feminist pov. This does not mean that there cannot be reasonable debate but attempts to derail and or change the subject will not be welcome. Much like discussing ponies in the wolef freds

So long as the chickens are proclaimed feminists then I have no issue with them.

However I do not have any time for the CRA (Cockerel Rights Activists), they can piss off with their attention seeking behaviour.

I'm not talking about derailment into non-feminist areas, I'm wondering if anti-feminist posts will be taken as part of a discussion about feminism/feminist issues, or rejected for not following a pro-feminist stance. I know from experience that some posters demand pro-feminist stances - not common, but sometimes.

I think it depends on the way in which the 'anti-feminist' stance is put forward. But IME there is very little space on MN in general for a truly anti-feminist pov anyway. You're likely to get a bolloxing for that anywhere on the forum.
