"well use your maiden name, love"

Said a guy on BBC breakfastwhile talking about Sally Bercow. Apparently if she wants to be taken seriously in her own right then she should 'use your maiden name, love'.

It was Andrew Pierce from the Daily Mail so maybe no surprise but when someone ends a statement with 'love' it makes my hackles rise. What a twat. This has annoyed me so much. Women can't win can they!

I reckon he's showing his age, saying things like that

I don't mind 'love' and feel that it truly depends on the tone used and the intention behind it. It's part of most sentences in some places. It is where I live and having been here almost 3 years, I find that I've picked it up and can use it when talking to men or women. But yes, it can also be used in a put-down manner!

Andrew has also called for her husband to "lock her in the tower" and referred to her as swivel eyed. He has said on his radio show he can't stand the woman.

She's not my cup of tea, but it is eye-opening that she is expected to 'behave' a certain way just because her husband is an important political person. I seem to remember the only legal criteria for getting married in the UK are being of age and of sound mind (and hopefully some level of love and commitment), so I don't see why a couple's behaviour it would be anybody else's business.

Plus on the other hand, how many wives have been routinely embarassed by their husbands' shenanigans (Mrs Prescott? Mrs Clinton?) yet the Daily Mail does not feel the need to tell them to 'lock him in a tower'.
