I thought it really encapsulated the unnervingly acceptable trend of these seemingly harmless "frat boy gets laid" films and how hatefully they depict Women when one can be bothered to deconstruct them.

Makes quite depressing reading - esp the cameo of Mike Tyson who has been hailed as some kind of hero to a generation of men.

I rarely post on here -more of an extreme lurker, but thought it might be of interest.

Thanks for posting that Scarlett. It was an interesting piece, I knew the film was bullshit when I watched it but no one else seems to blink twice!

I was offended enough by Superbad to put me off this genre for life.

The Women and Hollywood blog is another good source of woman-centric film writing/news/reviews. Most mainstream film critics are men, aren't they? I was looking around for reviews of the Kristin Scott Thomas film Partir (Leaving) today, and couldn't find a single review written by a woman in the mainstream media. It's very much a woman's film and although it got good reviews from the male critics, they didn't 'get it' in the way a woman would.

That is one repulsive film. I found it deeply chilling where they told the story of how they were able to sexually abuse the baby for the movie- they waited until its mother was out of the room and then got permission (!) from the father who gave it as he was a big fan.

It is disgraceful that there haven't been repercussions from this.

i would say that about 95% of films (based on absolutely no facts whatsoever i hasten to add) are about, or contain some form of, how to coerce women into having sex

i find Mark Kermode is reasonably good on pointing out misogyny in films (though not always)

Yes the stuff about the baby was absolutely shocking.

Agree about Kermode - his rant about SATC2 was a classic!

Yes the abusing the baby scene and how the director "got " to film it isincredibly sick. Unbelievable there was no comeback from that and he was able to share the story to the media without being publicly reviled (or arrested for that matter).

I agree with Willie, there seems to be an obsession in film and modern media about getting a Woman into bed by any means necessary. I was watching Family Guy last night and there was a sketch where a man drugged a girl and tried to rape her. Sound funny? Well that fact that it was a cartoon didn't really soften the blow for me. But it's allowed and it's fine, even comedy like the film in my OP.

Hagocrat the film industry is depressingly patriarchial. I agree with you as someone who is myself passionate about cinema I am so let down by the absence of a Female voice in both criticism and production. It's like we have lost our way amid all this macho shitola like the above that is so popular. I have lots of references I have built up over the years if you want to PM me

I feel sorry for thee baby and his mother. That's just... wrong. On every level. I'm glad I haven't seen this pile of shit. And praying it doesn't come up next year at uni. Already walked out over Chinatown. I'd gladly do the same for this one.
