Ok, I really am really very late for work at this point but I thought it might be nice to have a space in which we can discuss separatist feminism. I've read a lot of advocates of it, and even incorporate some elements of it into my own life - I prefer not to live with men, for example - but I don't practise it totally and I can't find any examples of any separatist communes.

Does anyone know anything more about it? Does anyone live in a separatist way?

Surprisingly good Wiki link here

But I don't ignore power. I think the drive to power is part of nature and is what leads to societies and their structures with the powerful sitting on top and directing the society. But that drive to power is a part of nature itself.

Once power has been gained, the powerful then seek to maintain and perpetuate that power. They devise laws and systems to enshrine their power and patriarchal systems like teh Church come up with all sorts of reasoning to maintain that power and their belief of how society should be run. Patriarchy marginalises women because it believes that that is how society should be run. The ayatollahs believe in their system. But human nature and understanding and reason slowly changes society and greater fairness and equality emerges as it has slowly done in many societies.

Are you saying that there is no such thing as nature and instinctual pre-programmed behaviour?

claig · 28/07/2011 10:53

''Nature' is a category that man invented'

On the contrary, I think that man is a creation and invention of nature. Man tries to control nature and become as a God, but is always subject to the laws of nature and will eventually turn to dust, just as any other of nature's living creatures.

If nature is man-made then that means it has no real existence. But Attenborough makes films about nature and studies the animal kingdom. There is very little agency among teh animal kingdom, most of teh behaviour is pre-programmed and instinctual and follows nature's plan.

'I don't believe nature has a plan either I'm afraid.'

fair enough. I believe it does have a plan and is the manifestation of the Creator's plan and unfolds before our eyes.I think the life of humans and other animals follows a plan, as they grow from small infants with similar characteristics until they eventually age and die, going through the stages of life.

'and if nature's/god's plan is that women should be subservient slaves and control and privilege is the only aim then nature and god can f off too.'

I don't think that is nature's plan, which is why we have been given reason in order to reorganise and change society to ensure freedom, justice and good. We are the only animals on earth capable of doing so, because we can think. That is nature's plan for us. - to override the animal and create a better world.

I think it is like the Olympian Gods watch us as we play the game. They want to see what we are capable of, what we can achieve by intellect alone. The Titans chained Prometheus up against a rock because he was was a champion of humanity and gave fire and knowledge to the humans. There are Titans, like Murdoch, and patriarchs now, and there are lies like global warming that the Titans promote, but in the end humanity will triumph. That is the battle that the Olympians watch from on high. And just as with the Greek gods, some humans are favourites of the Gods and are helped in their struggle against the Titans, the patriarchs, the oligarchy and the elites who wish to chain humanity against the rock.

This is the age old question of why does suffering exist and why does evil exists and why do we have to die. No one knows the answer, we are just pawns on God's chess board, we don't understand why.

I don't think it makes sense to talk about 'nature's plan' - if we know anything about nature it is that there is no plan. There are patterns though, and ways that organisms have evolved in ways that promoted the transmission of their genes (even though 99.9% have no idea about genes SGB).

From that perspective the various deals struck between men and women over the years have been 'good' for the genes on both sides (promoting survival of offspring) - but what is good for genes is not necessarily good for individuals.

'if we know anything about nature it is that there is no plan'

that is what we are constantly told by the powerful. They tell us that we humans are destroying nature that we will destroy our planet. That's what the global warmers tell us using their powerful media resources worldwide. They tell us that nature has no plan and that there is no God and that humans are destroying nature. They paint us as powerless and harmful to nature. That's how they want us, so that we can be easily controlled by their plans.

But misogyny is evil, it is evil against women and against humanity. There is no gate, where some go through and some fail to get through. We are all in this together.

No, I didn't say that misogyny was created by the creator, I said that men were made more aggressive and power seeking which is why in most societies they have ended up being in power.
