Just wondering if there is any women who has never had to experience this.

I've never been flashed at.

Many years ago I was walking down a narrrow street in Paris when a young man on the back of a moped slowed down, leaned across and pinched my bottom.
Nowadays he'd have to swerve to avoid hitting it.

breatheslowly · 21/06/2011 09:39

Never - what rate were you expecting?

swanker · 21/06/2011 09:55

I have never been flashed.
Maybe it's a rural/urban thing? RInder's life sounds very rural, mine is v urban.

lemonmuffin · 21/06/2011 09:59

never

smugaboo · 21/06/2011 10:03

Three times. First time I was about 12. Train station. Next time I was doing the backpacking thing in Europe and an old guy was half hidden in the bushes wanking and looking at me. Last time I was in my mid-twenties and a really young guy dropped his trousers and just stood there looking pleased. Early morning too.
Never reacted at all to any of them.
As for being felt up in bars - plenty. My friends and I were also abused in the street when we were about 14 by a bunch of guys who groped us. That was by far the most frightening. The fuckers.

exexpat · 21/06/2011 10:10

I've been flashed at at least four times - once in St James' park, once by a guy in the field next to my house (when I was 11 or 12), twice while living abroad (being blonde and blue-eyed attracted the wrong sort of attention). Also been groped a couple of times (Tokyo subway at rush-hour - you can't move, let alone see who's doing it).

I didn't react to any of it, but also never reported any of it. Later wondered if I should have, particularly the guy in the field next to my house - he was not just flashing but wanking, and I was pretty young.

RoxyRobin · 21/06/2011 10:11

No - but am v short-sighted so might have missed it. Have been groped by weirdo, though - at the Ideal Home Exhibition of all places!

BerylOfLaughs · 21/06/2011 10:13

I've been flashed at once.

DH has been groped inappropriately in a crowd by a male.

lostinwales · 21/06/2011 10:16

I got flashed by a patient at work, (it wasn't accidental as he was a frequent flier in the renal clinic and had had countless similar x-rays). He'd put his gown on back to front and accidentally left his pants off, when I pulled the blanket down to do the x-ray he'd opened the front of the gown in a little oval shape, it looked mostly like he'd made a little nest for his penis. He was looking very intently at my face but as a seasoned NHS campaigner I just adjusted his blanket and did the x-ray, not a flicker crossed my face. When he was gone I was furious, mainly because he'd taken advantage of the NHS to get his kicks (I was young and idealistic at the time Blush)

msbuggywinkle · 21/06/2011 10:23

Lots. At school we used to have to run through the park wearing see through polo shirts and gym knickers, which seemed to attract them.

sunshineandbooks · 21/06/2011 10:48

Never been flashed, but I have been groped on several occasions. Nothing I couldn't handle, and it made me angry rather than scared, but that's not the point really is it.

Bloodymary · 21/06/2011 15:01

I have been flashed at several times (sad bastards).

One of these days it will happen when I am in a bad mood and have a rolled up brolly to hand!!!

HappyAsIAm · 21/06/2011 15:05

Not flashed at exactly. But there was once a man wearing a bra and pants (matching, naturally) who jumped head first into the wheelie bin which was next to my kitchen window at the time. Very dark outside, I had the kitchen light on. And there he stayed, kicking his legs out of the bin. And then ran away. I reported it to the police and he never came back.

TeaOneSugar · 21/06/2011 15:05

Yes, waiting at a bus stop to go home from school.

GrimmaTheNome · 21/06/2011 15:11

Neither flashed nor groped. Once when a teen I had a bloke keep edging closer to me on a bus seat but I just got up and moved.

Happy, how bizzare. There's nowt so queer as folks indeed.

CointreauVersial · 21/06/2011 16:20

Maybe Rinders is much more observant than the rest of us - maybe there have been willies waving at me left, right and centre that I've completely failed to notice. A lot of unfulfilled flashers.

No flashing, but I have been groped a few times, though; once by my mum's hairdresser when I was 14; one minute he was fiddling with my hair, the next minute his hands were inside my bra. I was very brave, and told him to behave himself, then had to sit there while he finished my haircut.

Another time I was asleep on a 12-hour coach trip and woke to find the guy next to me undoing my jeans and sticking his hand in. He just laughed. Again, no escape, but I made sure the whole coach knew what he'd been up to.

Neither episode frightened me, mainly because I wasn't really at risk of any harm. I think a stocking-faced man at 2am would be scary whatever he was waving.

OneHelluvaBroad · 21/06/2011 16:24

I've been flashed at three times in my life:

euphrosyne · 21/06/2011 16:42

I was flashed when I was 12. Two streets down the road from my house, early afternoon. He was in a car, sat on the driver's seat, trousers down... I was shocked, but I shouted at him 'you wanker!!!' and left.

Also been gropped in the street when I was 19...

BertieBotts · 21/06/2011 19:35

I haven't. I know friends who have, though. For a group of them it was outside school :(

BertieBotts · 21/06/2011 19:40

And I have been groped, although friends at the time said I asked for it as I went to a gig (with standing/mosh pit) in a very short skirt. I could forgive a certain amount of accidental touching while crowdsurfing, but not the definite and deliberate "pinches", or the guy who stood very close behind me with his hand on my arse rubbing his erection on my back, knowing the crowd was too dense for me to do anything other than attempt to elbow him Hmm I was probably only 16 at the time as well, and looked younger. Angry

FreudianSlipper · 21/06/2011 21:23

i went to an all girls school too, and are school was a magnet for them too

on teh same grounds was a middle and primary school. one couple decided to get their kicks having very loud sex in a transit van (or maybe a guy picking up a prostitute, this is more likely) outside the school grounds. not sure what happened but after a few weeks the van was never seen again

funny friends and i were only discussing the othe day that you hardly hear of anyone being flashed at anymore

BoggyEyedMum · 21/06/2011 21:39

Yep, in Sorrento years ago. I was walking with a friend when a young lad we'd been talking to earlier suddenly appeared behind us, shoved me up against the wall and got his tackle out. I channelled Margaret Rutherford, bellowed "how RUDE!!" at him and marched off up the hill hand in hand with my friend for a very stiff drink, leaving him wanking away in the middle of the lane. For the rest of the week we were convinced that every waiter we met knew what had happened to us and were so certain it would happen again that we were back in our hotel room by 8 every night.

depob · 21/06/2011 23:26

Well this interesting...I thought that everyone got flashed at. It's happened to me 5 times in three different countries. I started thinking about it as my DD is 11 and started going out (not far) but without me in tow, and I just assumed it will happen to her sooner or later, and I was wondering if I should talk to her about it, and what advice I should give.

Actually I've just realised - does online count? I've been subjected to unwanted cock pictures a few times now.

electra · 23/06/2011 13:00

No, luckily for me I never have.
