I love your mum Kazmus . :)

Al0uiseG · 21/06/2011 07:13

Never, which is a crying shame considering the phrases I've stored up over the years to use against them!

MinnieBar · 21/06/2011 07:14

Not in the flesh, but when I was 21 and worked in a bookshop the section I was in included 'health'. One day a very embarrassed man asked me if there were any books on circumcision. As he seemed so uncomfortable asking and my ex had been circumcised as an adult it seemed a perfectly reasonable request. I looked at our (paltry) men's health section, looked in the index of one book, nothing. 'What about that one?' he said. I checked the index, there was an entry for circumcision, I turned to the page to be confronted by a whopping full-page colour photo of, of course, a circumcised penis. I realised what his game was, went bright red, slammed the book shut, said 'No, nothing there' and he smirked and left.

Turns out he'd been in a few times that week and had already asked other female members of staff the same thing ? everyone else found it amusing, I was angry and felt like they thought I was over-reacting.

I've been flashed at a few times. Once when I was about 10. A group of boys pulled down their trousers and chased me down a deserted lane. Not sure if that's flashing or bullying or both Hmm Once I looked out of my window and the lad across the road was showing more than he ought to Hmm.

Also been groped by an old man on a packed bus. I was in my school uniform and he grabbed my breast. Nobody said or did anything. They just watched an old man grab a school child's breast. I burst into tears and got off the bus. Not even the bus driver did anything.

Other things have happened too. I think it is very common.

TheMagnificentBathykolpian · 21/06/2011 07:50

Oh, just remembered. My mum was flashed at once. She looked at it, curled her lip and said "No thanks, I'll smoke my own."

Abra1d · 21/06/2011 07:57

It happened to me three times when I was a young girl/teenager. I just thought it was pathetic and weird. I didn't brood on it or find it scary. I think this is a better reaction than being shocked and horrified, tbh.

hazeyjane · 21/06/2011 08:07

"I didn't brood on it or find it scary. I think this is a better reaction than being shocked and horrified, tbh."

Well, yes, rationally much better to be able to laugh or find it pathetic, but sometimes the reality is different. I personally was so shit scared that I really thought I was in danger, maybe because it was night, or because he had covered his face.

I do hate that some people have laughed when I told them this story, I think people hear the word 'flasher' and it immediately has comedy connotations.

Threadworm8 · 21/06/2011 08:14

Hazey, that sounds terrifying. The stocking in particular must have made it seem ultra threatening.

I'm glad there are people here that haven't been flashed at. I have, a couple of times.

Perhaps the 'comedy' reaction is partly a way of defusing the threat and humiliation by being scathing and belittling about the perpetrator? It isn't just that, though. There is also a failure to take the upset seriously.

iskra · 21/06/2011 08:22

I haven't been flashed. Have seen a bloke masturbating in the bushes by our hockey field though.

I can remember the first time I was harassed in the street though. I was walking home from school age 12 in my uniform & a man shouted 'nice tits' out of the car window. I went home & cried.

transferbalance · 21/06/2011 08:27

I was flashed at waiting for a bus in Maidenhead

Old bloke with his cock hanging out of his flies

He wanted me to go home with him so that his son could 'sort me out'

I must have been 18 but looked much younger at that age

I wasn't very impressed, told him to 'put it away, dear'

omnishambles · 21/06/2011 08:29

I was going to say no but then I remembered that a 'friend' had flashed me with intent iyswim when I was sleeping over at a gfs house after a party.

And been felt up on the tube. Twice. Am waiting for it to happen again so that the much older me can shout the place down.

Cattleprod · 21/06/2011 08:36

No, although I did catch a man wanking under some stairs on the beach once, and did see a drunk man begging with his testicles dangling out the bottom of some very skimpy shorts - I'm guessing he didn't realise? Hmm

MinnieBar · 21/06/2011 08:40

The reason it's not a laughing matter is because some flashers escalate their behaviour to sexual assault. Not all, of course, but my understanding is that it's quite common for a lot of more serious offenders to have started off with 'just' flashing. So I think the police do take it more seriously now.

MinnieBar · 21/06/2011 08:41

Sorry, meant to say 'another reason'.

Rindercella · 21/06/2011 08:55

I have seen more flashed cocks than probably I have seen from my own choosing. The first time I got flashed at was in 1981, the day of the Royal Wedding. That was a bit of a shock (I was 11, with my friend and we were out riding our ponies). After that they came thick and fast (um, excuse any pun there - none intended).

I have been flashed at in woods, on trains; in England, abroad; just about everywhere. Doing lots of horse riding - thereby being in woods a lot - probably was a big reason, but not exclusively so. There was even some horrible man who used to strip and stand in front of his window wanking off when I was leaving school. I ended up telling my brother and he & one of his friends went and gave him a fright whilst he was at it.

Jesus, I just remembered, I even worked for a convicted flasher once in Italy. He never flashed at me, but sure as hell he used to be a peeping tom....I always wondered why he used to go up to the flat opposite mine and a couple of months later the realisation dawned.....

Perhaps I am a flasher magnet? Confused

WillbeanChariot · 21/06/2011 08:56

I've seen someone exposing themselves with face covered too, I was about 13 cycling down a country lane and he was standing in a field with trousers down and jumper over his head masturbating. I never told anyone, and began to think I had imagined it. Even at that tender age I shouted 'is that all you've got?' or something along those lines. Fucking weirdo.

Threadworm8 · 21/06/2011 08:58

"The first time I got flashed at was in 1981, the day of the Royal Wedding."

--That is such a wonderful sentence that you have to write a novel and use it as your opening line. Or an autobiography or something. A Brief History of Pricks or somesuch.

Rindercella · 21/06/2011 09:01

I have been driving down the A34 in the early morning on my way to work and seen some guy standing on the bridge wanking.

Honestly, you'd think I was seeking them out. I really, really am not.

Why men want to expose their cocks is beyond me. Hmm And I really do agree that it can be the start of something more serious (although I think a grown man getting his erect penis out to a small child is very serious indeed).

Rindercella · 21/06/2011 09:02

Thread, you just made me laugh out loud!! Grin

CheerfulYank · 21/06/2011 09:06

I was just thinking that! What a great first line.

ohmeohmy · 21/06/2011 09:12

I was flashed at on the northern line escalater, tottenham ct rd. He'd followed us from when we got on after school the git, and it was 'active' flashing too. bastard.

crystalglasses · 21/06/2011 09:13

Rindercella I've also been flashed at many a time. I was always told by my mother that these men are harmles and pathetic although when I was followed down the road late at night by a man opening and closing his raincoat (like a comedy sketch) I was quite frightened.

Most of my friend haven't had any 'flashing' or men masturbating experiences and so I wonder why I have.

TrilllianAstra · 21/06/2011 09:15

Never been flashed at. Or groped.

Then again if a man were wanking under a bridge I probably just wouldn't notice, I tend to walk along in a world of my own.
