The worst ones are the sneery articles that are dressed up as concern like this one about Victoria Beckham.

I literally can't see what we're supposed to be criticising here.

I thoguht at first maybe it was the sudden ending of fake tan with white feet. I thought maybe that was cankles.

But I still can't actually work out what a cankle is supposed to be.

It is where the CAlf merges into the ANKLE, without a delicate, slender and separate ankle in between. Apparently. I know the consept but have never looked for nor noticed them in reality.

There are loads of threads on S&B about dealing with them. So I found when I searched earlier.

When I hear about stuff like this and the rape apologist comments last week and all the rest, I do wish a large proportion of the world would just fuck right off.

There have been threads on here bitching about Cheryl Cole's cankles. I shouldn't be surprised if the journo didn't get the idea for the article from Mumsnet itself. Also our lovely fellow forum members saying things like Cheryl Cole isn't all that slender, Kate Middleton isn't that pretty - all the usual fucking depressing guff.

I would love it if the lazy journos would lift a thread from this section.

God I hate the DM. And it's not just Cheryl that gets torn to shreds for her imaginary "defect". There are all the pictures of other gorgeous, slender, young women like Misha Barton. How dare they be successful and rich and attractive. Let's find some monstrous physical defect to bring them down a peg or two. Oh, they don't have any? Never mind, let's make one up. WTF.

If the sentence about cankles being worse than having malaria was taken out of context then I would presume it was tongue in cheek, but in the context of that article it sounds like she actually means it.

What bugs me is that when people bitch about whether Cheryl Cole/random celeb is pretty I want to say 'No, she's setting a shite example of fakery ffs!' as well as saying 'but we shouldn't run women down about their looks'. I'm not sure if the two are compatible.

This makes me fume... I have a disabled relative and get really angry when I see strong, healthy, able bodies described in language like "suffering".
