Daily Mail invents a new physical flaw for women to worry about in what is possibly the most POINTLESS article ever. I challenge you to find a worse article.

Sorry for thread hijack, but can anyone give me the link to or name of the hilarious website which shows all those "disappointed/appalled/distressed customer/health and safety gone mad" photos in the Daily Mail of people standing next to the chips they are no longer allowed to serve in the canteen etc. I promised I would send the link to a friend but now I can't find it - saw it first on MN!

BunnyWunny · 25/05/2011 09:48

I wish my legs looked liked Cheryl's Sad

MmeLindor. · 25/05/2011 09:56

DM articles about women are either:

  1. has piled on the pounds
  1. looking worryingly thin
  1. looking glam
  1. caught without make up
  1. blooming in pregnancy
  1. pregnant and looking tired/wearing heels

The worst ones are the sneery articles that are dressed up as concern like this one about Victoria Beckham.

HooberGoober · 25/05/2011 17:20

"...any other physical defect ? jowls, ugly teeth, a wonky nose, enormous breasts"

Defects?? Angry It makes women's bodies sound like a factory production line article to be examined and discarded if they don't meet the standard.

darleneoconnor · 25/05/2011 21:50

wtf!?

HerBeX · 25/05/2011 22:04

I literally can't see what we're supposed to be criticising here.

I thoguht at first maybe it was the sudden ending of fake tan with white feet. I thought maybe that was cankles.

But I still can't actually work out what a cankle is supposed to be.

AyeRobot · 25/05/2011 22:11

It is where the CAlf merges into the ANKLE, without a delicate, slender and separate ankle in between. Apparently. I know the consept but have never looked for nor noticed them in reality.

There are loads of threads on S&B about dealing with them. So I found when I searched earlier.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 25/05/2011 22:19

Oh FGS

OP I think you're right. Could it get any crapper?

AyeRobot · 25/05/2011 22:22

consept? Mais, oui.

When I hear about stuff like this and the rape apologist comments last week and all the rest, I do wish a large proportion of the world would just fuck right off.

bibbitybobbityhat · 25/05/2011 22:29

There have been threads on here bitching about Cheryl Cole's cankles. I shouldn't be surprised if the journo didn't get the idea for the article from Mumsnet itself. Also our lovely fellow forum members saying things like Cheryl Cole isn't all that slender, Kate Middleton isn't that pretty - all the usual fucking depressing guff.

AyeRobot · 25/05/2011 22:34

I would love it if the lazy journos would lift a thread from this section.

slartybartfast · 25/05/2011 22:39

i was sure it was the fact that the colour of her feet were obviously paler than her legs.
now thats somethign to worry about Wink

GrimmaTheNome · 26/05/2011 00:00

I must admit I thought that was odd - my feet are usually darker than my legs from going outside barefoot in jeans ... oh no, I expect some DM hackette will form a support group for 'sufferers' of particolourism ShockGrin

LittleWhiteWolf · 26/05/2011 16:37

Sufferers? Sufferers? Beggars belief...

Al0uiseG · 26/05/2011 16:40

Apparently it was in Grazia first.

thebody · 26/05/2011 19:23

i read this article and ashamed to say spent ages looking at her ankle and foot, then mine, and couldnt understand what the bloody hell the article was on about!!

they looked normal to me.. maybe thats the real reason she has been droppd from the american x factor!!!! fat cankles..

mrsravelstein · 26/05/2011 19:26

ah, i thought it was to do with the fake tan stopping at the ankles too, herbex

RamblingRosa · 26/05/2011 19:31

God I hate the DM. And it's not just Cheryl that gets torn to shreds for her imaginary "defect". There are all the pictures of other gorgeous, slender, young women like Misha Barton. How dare they be successful and rich and attractive. Let's find some monstrous physical defect to bring them down a peg or two. Oh, they don't have any? Never mind, let's make one up. WTF.

quirrelquarrel · 02/06/2011 20:11

God why hasn't the Daily Mail been pulled down long ago!

Do they print this kind of thing?
It's all very well getting to know your enemy, but if that enemy makes you sick...I'd rather gather my strength!

melpomene · 03/06/2011 01:04

FGS! They all look fine! And even if they did have big or unusually shaped ankles, so bloody what?

And as for the part about wearing uncomfortable shoes to disguise them...

If the sentence about cankles being worse than having malaria was taken out of context then I would presume it was tongue in cheek, but in the context of that article it sounds like she actually means it.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 03/06/2011 10:33

My eyes are sore from rolling them.

What bugs me is that when people bitch about whether Cheryl Cole/random celeb is pretty I want to say 'No, she's setting a shite example of fakery ffs!' as well as saying 'but we shouldn't run women down about their looks'. I'm not sure if the two are compatible.

SkaterGrrrrl · 04/06/2011 18:31

This makes me fume... I have a disabled relative and get really angry when I see strong, healthy, able bodies described in language like "suffering".

TheMonster · 04/06/2011 18:35

How dare our legs join up with our feet!

AyeRobot · 14/06/2011 23:14

Hurrah - there's a cure!!

Fucking hell.

sunshineandbooks · 14/06/2011 23:28

The non-invasive, laser liposuction helps thin and re-shape the ankle area and help smooth out the aesthetic flaw.

OMG! Shock The woman is as near to the 'perfect' demanded by the (patriarchal) media as it's possible to get and she's still not good enough.
