I just put this on 'Politics' too. I started a previous thread to ask for your priorities; from what you said, I think Violence against women; Sex industry and Caring responsibilities inc parental leave are the main three areas. The meeting to set the agenda for the TUSC conference is on June 13th. Can you let meknow your thoughts by about 10th-ish? then I can make a start on fighting my way through the bureaucratic nightmareliaising with the supportive comrades

Don't hold your breath, Prolesworth. I fear that might take more than one meeting. TUSC is unlikely to form the core of that ruling elite any time soon, but at least we may be able to get women's interests nerarer to the heart of policies of a (very small) electoral organisation. Of course, being socialists, they fight tirelessly for our liberation, but just to be on the safe side...

swallowed - that's a great point about women's unemployment not being counted. The TUSC conference will be focussed on local govt. elections and cuts, so that's clearly relevant, likewise the wraparound childcare. VAW is slightly more indirect but still tied up with councils.

Someone seems to have failed theireconomics here. Many recent recessions have seen more male jobs go. How about councils cutting exec posts and sals which may be male dominated instead of carers. Of course we could ramp up the deficit for our children to pay. How many MNetters are up for that?

I am, Humility. Boots paid 3% tax last year, Barclays 1%. Philip Green (Arcadia) hs his money salted away with his wife in Monaco. Tax avoidance/evasion is rife. Trident is unusable. Try them first, then come back to me about 'deficits'.

It's true the banks have not been supervised properly. If you can get any of our politicians to sort that out good luck to you. I hope they can learn from Gordon's mistakes. I think the best thing we can do is to engage our DCs and their friends in any current affairs. It's frightening how few younger people vote. Has anyone heard oF the suffragettes? hope you get some involved. But they might want us oldies to pay off some of the deficitMy DD does!

Not just Gordon's mistakes. Started way before Gordon. Some of us oldies don't expect a financial crisis caused by bankers to be paid for with the jobs of teaching assistants. Of course young people don't vote, because none of the major parties that get any publicity represent them. Tuition fees? EMA? affordable housing? Youth unemployment? No major party has a policy on those for young people. Cutting spending on those areas and others and trying to spin it as protecting our children's future prosperity is a bit sick imo.
