How lovely are your armpits?

Anyone else pissed off by advertisers' constant need to cause paranoia and fear to sell their products?

Because apparently, 100% of women don't like their armpits. (Who do they ask?) And if you have lovely armpits, it makes you feel confident and every success in life will be yours. FFS. Hmm

you are Quote of the Week

BoF - Grin

TeiTetua · 06/05/2011 16:38

Re the Quote of the Week, Oh no, hairy armpits associated with feminism in the public mind. Just can't get away from 'em.

piplup · 07/05/2011 09:44

Cant beleive my first five minutes on here has led me to armpit sniffing, how refreshing!!! Who needs Loose Women.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 07/05/2011 09:47

Maybe they should just market nice, fresh, pheromoney, female sweat as deodorant?

Bizkit · 07/05/2011 10:19

Hilarious link BOF
My armpits ain't the greatest, but that's due to shaving, if I wasn't pressured by society to do that I probably wouldn't think twice about my underarms

SardineQueen · 07/05/2011 17:39

Our pits and genital areas give off whiffs that subconsciously help us select mates, I think? For men and for women.

I am not sure what all this suppression and covering up of natural aromas does. Maybe makes us pick the wrong mates? Looking at the relationship boards on here supports that idea...!

aliceliddell · 07/05/2011 19:25

OMG! It's me! Truly, I am living the dream! I will make a speech about world peace later....

Grin alice

Pitkins! Bwahahahahaha!

nooka · 11/05/2011 04:28

Loving the pitkins Grin I think it would be quite fun to dye underarm hair in interesting colours and make a feature of them in the summer.

I quite like my armpits. I've shaved them a few times and found it difficult (I've got skin tags too) and afterward really uncomfortable. My dd at 10 is just starting to grow hers and I worry that she will soon be wanting to get rid of them as the peer pressure is so strong. I think that she is beautiful just the way she is. I note that ds won't be told that there is anything ugly about his natural state.

LlydogenFawr · 11/05/2011 08:43

I remember my nan telling me that I needed to start shaving my pits when I was about 12 because it wasn't clean to have hair there. I asked her why it was clean for men but not women (my mother never shaved sonwas a new xoncept for me!), she was not able to give me a satisfactory answer. I do remember after that I used to surreptitiously check male underarm hair to see what made it so different to mine because i couldn't understand why mine was unclean and theirs wasn't!

Bumperlicioso · 25/05/2011 11:42

Just thought I'd add to this thread rather than starting up a new one. Just got out of the shower (I know, it's 11.30!) and I realised I shave my armpits purely to avoid judgement from others. I just shaved my legs too and I accept that I do that because I like the feel of it (as I have been culturally conditioned to etc etc) but the armpits is pure for other people. Dh doesn't care, in fact he thinks hairy armpits are nice (he may have just been pandering to my slatternly ways though Grin), I don't care if they are shorn or not. I do it solely to avoid judgement.

I've just commented on this on another thread.

I boycott Dove because of their nauseating Campaign for Real Beauty. Not that Unilever will notice the dip in their profits.
