The week on Talk…
|
Quote of the week
MermaidAvenue was mortified to find a florists had mixed up a 'thank-you' order for her university professor: "Can I ask for compensation for a misplaced declaration of love? I am going to bloody demand they email him to tell him I don't love him. And personally burst the bloody balloons."

The week's parenting news…
- An aeronautical engineering student in India has designed a bra that jolts would-be rapists when triggered. The bra delivers a 3,800kV electric shock when pinched or grabbed and can send a text message to a phone with the GPS coordinates of the wearer's location. (BBC)
- An independent think tank has warned that free school meals may be scrapped after the general election as a result of funding cuts to local councils. (Independent; join the discussion in Talk)
- Five executives from PIP, the company that supplied thousands of women with faulty breast implants, have gone on trial in France. The implants, which were made with cheap industrial silicone, were implanted in more than 300,000 women. (Guardian)
- It's OK for pregnant women to drink one small glass of wine a week, says new research. The study, using data from the UK Millennium Cohort Study, found low levels of alcohol consumption during pregnancy did not adversely affect children's behavioural or cognitive outcomes. (BBC)
- And finally...a terminal cancer patient saved the life of his ambulance driver after the man suffered a heart attack. Christian Nayet took the wheel and drove the ambulance to the nearest hospital, administering a blood thinning drug to the driver en route. (Telegraph)
