Article below claims that many women have given up on the CIF opinion pages due to the presence of too many men?s rights activists (MRAs). Is this your experience?

Comment is anything but free at the Guardian

I still post the occasional pro-feminist comments there. The last one I did got 24 'approvals' so apparently not everyone has given up the fight.

Certainly, the kind of person who is going to churn out the same knee jerk anti-feminist or even misogynis response regardless of what the article says doesn't really deserve to be taking part in the debate.

It would be interesting to know how many people read past the first page of comments. I'm following 2 of the the CIF editors on twitter to get early warnings but not every subject get tweeted

yes, dittany. so true. wonder how many they'll get?

HerBeX · 04/04/2011 20:47

Yes I can't be arsed with it, I occasionally post a feminist comment then can't be bothered to go back to it, what's the point?

As far as I can see, it's a MRA space.

msrisotto · 05/04/2011 07:28

I used to look at CiF but it didn't last long, definitely chased off by the vile sexist MRAs on there. As HerBeX says - it's MRA space and why would I want to subject myself to hatred? Why would I? I'm no masochist!

Their moderators have failed miserably in making it a safe space for debate.

sethstarkaddersmackerel · 05/04/2011 09:42

I would rather be on the Daily Mail comments section than CiF, you get the same misogyny but less self-righteousness.

David51 · 05/04/2011 10:04

The trouble with the Daily Mail board is it's pre-moderated so if your comment is considered too inflammatory it won't get published at all (same with BBC Have your say)

Like HerBex, when I post a comment in CIF I generally leave it at that rather than bothering to engage with any comebacks (It's not as if you're taking part in some kind of intelligent productive dialogue, after all)

I don't actually tend to read CiF but it saddens me that female journalists post under m.ale pseudonyms in order to be taken seriously. Sad

Anyway, sometimes I think the comments in newspapers should be treated like trolls on here. Ignored. There is no intelligent conversation to be had and no argument to be won as they are clearly blinded by their own stupidity and bigotry.
