Pornography's effect on relationships

thefinerthingsinlife · 13/03/2011 20:15

For my final project I plan to cover the issues of porns effect on relationships. I need to start reading around the subject, so far the books I have are:

Dangerous relationships: pornography, misogyny and rape - Diana Russell
Pornified - Pamela Paul
Pornography: men possessing women - Dworkin
Pornography : the production and consumption of inequalites.
Everyday Porn - Karen Boyles.

Are there any key books, websites, blogs etc. that could be useful? I'd be very grateful.

Gail Dines, Pornland - very up-to-date.

HandDivedScallopsrgreat · 13/03/2011 20:23

Pornland - Gail Dines - it touches on relationships throughout the book and explains who everyone's sexuality (especially the younger generation - by which I mean teens and early 20's) is being changed by porn.

maymay's Male Submission Art and Maybe maimed but Never Harmed.

maymay curates the former site and the latter is, I think, his primary blog. I find some of his work overly fussy but he writes very precisely about the issues that concern him - including positive and negative effects of different kinds of porn. MSA, in particular, contains a lot of homegrown porn made with a rich awareness of context and the range of possible interpretations, with many comments from the producers/providers - who are often the subjects of the images.

Thanks Tiger and Dittany.

Not really what i'm looking for, but thanks Madamh.

dittany: yes, the sites are pro (ethical) BDSM, written from maymay's perspective as a submissive male and, if I recall correctly, feminist. I linked to them because maymay writes a lot about different types of porn and their effects on people and their relationships.

thefinerthingsinlife: no worries if they're not what you're looking for. I was concerned that the titles mentioned seem to come from a single, very definite anti-porn angle and I wanted to give a heads-up for another perspective that you might have found interesting.

BUMP

my OH has his newphone background as a stripper going gyrating round the pole and as she swings round in a g-string,
you can see so much youre practically glaring into her intestines and money falls out ! lurrvly [hmmm]

sorry to time waste here needed a rant but didnt really warran a thread, plus i'd probs get alot of 'ur just jealous' if I did :(

RespectTheDoughnut · 16/03/2011 23:37

I don't think you'd get that response at all, Delia. & quite apart from anything else, that's just tacky Hmm Have you spoken to him about it?

Deliainthemaking · 16/03/2011 23:50

Not from you guys but some posters in here are like Daily Fail pitbulls in heat,

I said to him how would you feel If I had a mans bulging crotch on my background? said he wouldnt mind, so I may test that theory Grin

JessinAvalon · 16/03/2011 23:55

I would hate that Delia for so many reasons!

Deliainthemaking · 17/03/2011 00:13

I think the wholelapdancer thing is tacky

on a personal level the main issue for is the double standard and thats is different :(

RespectTheDoughnut · 17/03/2011 00:24

Have you explicitly told him that you don't like it?

Deliainthemaking · 17/03/2011 00:39

yeah, he says he delete but ill see tommorrow

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 17/03/2011 00:41

OP: I would suggest you also look at Against Censorship. I'm not sure what your project is but it's generally not good practice to research only one side of a contentious issue.

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 17/03/2011 00:44

Sorry, Feminists against censorship. There is an anti-censorship feminist position (which can include support for ethical porn), despite the mainstream media's longstanding insistence on portraying the porn debate as Fun-Loving People versus Hairy-Legged Sex-Starved Feminists.

thefinerthingsinlife · 17/03/2011 12:10

Oh Delia, I understand where you're coming from, I would not be happy at all!

SCGB, I think the question that I'm going to answer will be "does the use of pornography affect personal relationships?". Don't worry I was going to research the otherside too, I just knew I could get some good "anti" sources on here. Thanks for the link.

OP posts:
thefinerthingsinlife · 17/03/2011 12:11
