I have been inspired by all the posts on threads where people say 'but women are better at...and men are better at...', and by a van in front of me in traffic this afternoon advertising property management help called 'Bigjobslittlejobs' or something like that. The Logo had a man with a saw at the 'big jobs' end and a woman with a hoover at the 'little jobs' end.
Knowing, as I now do from here and reading Delusions of Gender, that we are actually socialised to be 'like a woman' or 'like a man', it occurred to me that it might be interesting to start a blog where people could post (or send me to post) photos or stories to show how insidious gender stereotyping is. I know that people don't like to think that they're being socialised to behave a certain way, but I wonder if a massive collection of examples might just be an interesting resource.
I thought a section of photos and stories that challenge gender stereotypes would also be good...and possibly show how outnumbered they are.
Is there anything like this already out there, or do you think it is something it would be worth me doing?
