Ghana festival that tests women's virginity

Just came across this news item from Ghana:

I think wht I find most shocking about this is that the newspaper seems to be saying this practice should be encouraged.

This is ridiculous, is there the same test for a man? No ofcourse there isn't, promiscuity is only negative and 'sinful' behaviour if you are a women!

Yes, and it promotes the idea that men should always be suspicious of female sexuality. If a wife passes the test it encourages her husband to 'love her more' Hmm

The nature of the test is so arbitary too. If I got on that platform it would instantly collapse under my weight!
