Arm me with some facts about prostitution in Thailand

... but I daren't google it for fear of what it might come up with.

My DH's friend (who I can't stand, but they've been friends for 20 years) has just been on a month long trip to Thailand, and openly admits to using prostitutes while he was there.

He also frequents a 'massage parlour' in his home city.

When they all went to Amsterdam a few years ago, he paid a prostitute there and even asked my DH if he was going to have a go.

My DH hates the idea of using prostitutes himself but he has a 'live and let live' attitude to his friend's behaviour, as long as the women are in charge of their own trade (ie not being pimped out) and are doing it out of free choice.

So please help me to formulate a coherent argument showing him why his presumptions about 'free choice' are more than likely wrong.

I think that pretty much sums it up. The humiliation and degradation of fellow human beings unregulated and 'accepted' by the Western world.

A world that remains 'unacceptable' in every sense. Unless you are poor of course.

A 'tourist' in Thailand who has sex with a twelve year old girl or boy is 'having a holiday'.

In Europe he would be locked up if he was caught.

We cannot compare countries or cultures but children are children wherever they are born.

While I agree with everything you say suncottage, there was no suggestion that DH's friend was having sex with children.

You are right, there was no evidence to suggest that, but I have seen very young girls made to 'look' eighteen on the streets in Thailand and very drunk men picking them up.

I saw a very drunk twenty something American male screaming at a young girl;

"I don't want to fcking hear you fcking bartering with me, I just want to know how much it will cost to fcking fck you".

She went with him because her pimp was looking on with a stern face and arms folded, she had no choice.

My heart bled for her.
