Since it looks like the first chat thread is about to fill up, here's the next one all ready and waiting.

Think of it as the gated commune with babysitting on demand and gorgeous poolboys serving the drinks :o

Englebert thanks for posting about your dd in response to my worries :) I feel a bit blue pill/red pill at the moment - I need to have a chat to dh about some of my worries and maybe show him that great blog someone posted the other day about rape.

Unrulysun · 01/03/2011 11:39

I've found festivals fine for sleeping because I camp in family fields but most of my friends that go to festivals don't have kids so it's a bit lonely in the evenings. I'd be up for a group camp. There are lots that are good for kids.

I also covet a bell tent but I don't think I could put one up on my own whereas I can (just about) get our Quechua Base Seconds up (although seconds is stretching the truth a bit!)

Unrulysun · 01/03/2011 12:01

I think there are family festivals? I have to confess that the idea of camping brings me out in a rash though Blush. dh loves it, I never let him get in touch with his inner Mears.

Loving the velour tunic-dress!

Engelbert, your children sound great.
What I remember about being very hard at the age of 10 and thereabouts was that cliqueiness became very important (I am sure this starts sooner now, like everything else). It seemed to me that socialising seemed fixated on having someone to exclude. This wasn't necessarily me, but when it wasn't I was very uncomfortable about joining in with the exclusion of someone else for some apparently random reason of the day. I can remember wondering about the apparent decline of the human race because my parents had nice friends who were polite to everyone without feeling any need to sneer at people, and wondering why my generation had this requirement to be snotty (it didn't occur to me that they could just grow up, dur). Your daughter sounds lovely, and as you say, as everyone gets older these strange distorted social conventions will be replaced by less nasty conventions.

It sounds like she's doing fine, Englebert Smile She's going to be a very interesting eighteen year old, firing on all cylinders.

sakura · 01/03/2011 13:32

Oh and I looove camping. Going in May for a week.

LadyBiscuit · 01/03/2011 13:37

In Japan sakura? (for some reason I can't imagine camping in Japan :o)

sakura · 01/03/2011 13:54

Well I wouldn't camp in Tokyo if I were you..
BUt Japan has the second most beautiful mountains in the world (after Wales) Smile

notenoughsocks · 01/03/2011 14:10

Englebert, forgot to say. Last year I went to Sunrise OffGrid. I mention it because I know that the people who had tickets for the cancelled Big Green Gathering were let in. I have never been to the BGG so can't compare directly.

It was a very small festy - more workshop than music orientated but great fun and was a good first one with a baby - very safe and friendly. But, I have been to festies in better spots. It rained and rained and as it was high up it really caught the wind and chilliness. Perhaps not a big deal for most people but but was a bit for me cos I had travelled from North West Wales and was hoping for a little bit of that southern warmth.

Unrulysun · 01/03/2011 16:07

Japan does indeed have gorgeous mountains with monkeys n bears n stuff. And what I wouldn't give for an onsen! Are you in Tokyo Sakura? Is it warming up? I might be more into camping if it didn't always seem to involve waking up damp and cold or with a tarantula on your tent. :(
