Subject: MSPs comments on rape victim

Dear Fellow feminist trouble makers,

have you heard about Bill Atkin the Tory MSP in the Herald saying that a recent glasgow gang rape victim must have put herself in a vulnerable position/been a prostitute? he also noted that if she was a prostitute, (which she isn't), it would need taken into consideration.

Unfortunately said man is the conveener of the justice committee.

If anyone would like to email the members of the justice committee expressing concern that a man with such attitudes would be incapable of formulating justice policy which vigorously protects ALL todays women (even if they drink and wear skirts and no matter how they make money) from sexual violence ... here are their addresses:

You might want to tell them to publicly condemn him because otherwise they are condoning the attitudes which perpetuate and allow the rape of women. I reckon they should demand his resignation because they can't have such people IN the committee, let alone convening it.

I have written to them. Some responses have been rubbish, but some have actually got pretty hett up by me accusing them of implicitly supporting such views by not speaking out on it. Banding about the 3.7% rape conviction rate we have in Scotland, as an abject policy failure got their wick too.

Please encourage any other friends to pile in too :)
