Surogacy on woman's hour?

Did anyone else hear that twat on woman's hour today? He was a gay man with 5 children all born through surogacy & has just set up some surogacy support group. Two things marked him out as a teat to me, first someone had commented on the looks of his son & he said 'you get what you pay for', secondly he insisted that all the women surrogates have c-secs, though he didn't say why.

He was an idiot. I've not really got an opinion on surogacy but one woman on the show was describing it as 'renting a womb' and it is very much a feminist issue.

Shock you get what you pay for

No, I didn't hear it, but yer man sounds like a plank.

I heard him Bumper, and started (and finished :o) a thread here.

The presenter mentioned (quietly) that he insisted that the women have Caesarians "so they don't get to experience birth", IIRC Hmm :(

Awful isn't it. Can't imagine what his justification was & can't believe they didn't follow it up!

Was that really the reason? God, how awful. I assumed it was so he could be sure he would make it to the birth.

I agree. Twat.

I heard it repeated at the weekend.

It does seem an almost inevitable future that rich men (and women) will rent the wombs of poor women, much in the same way as used to be the case for wet-nursing.

I dont know what the feminist answer to this is.

Banning surrogacy?
Allowing surrogates to charge much higher fees?
Easing adoption rules?

With so many celebrities openly jumping on the surrogacy bandwagon it is soon going to be as normalised as IVF.

Could surrogate-born children eventually outnumber mother-born ones?

The problem with paying surrogates is that it will become those desperately in need who do it for the wrong reasons.
