Not that I am drunk, at all. But I want to wish everyone who's posted on this section a lovely Christmas and I hope you get all the fun and relaxation you need.

And I hope you're not the one who has to peel all the potatoes by yourself while the men go down the pub, obviously. Xmas Grin

I think the feminist section is one of the best things about the entire world wide web.

I have learned so much from many posters, including those I have disagreed with.

ISNT · 24/12/2010 12:38

Have a fantastic time everybody!!!

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 24/12/2010 12:41

Nadelek Lowen Alexpolismum Xmas Smile

I am feeling the lack of a MN Feminism Christmas/Yule/Solstic/Thing Christmas Party, hence the thread. And I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone who's posted here (whether I've disagreed or agreed) for making it such a lively board. I've learnt so much, and hope it survives for years to come.

Sorry about the Amazon bill BelleDame (although it at least sounds like a feminist-friendly bookseller).

Love the idea of alternative Aldi relatives TBE. Poor DH, is he alright? Can't you send the big daughter to the shops? Too far?

Elephants, I never knew you were from Kernow before. I was also born on the right side of the Tamar (in Bodmin back in the days when it had a maternity clinic). Nadelek Lowen to you too! Smile It's been a while since I heard anyone say that. It's usually Chronia Polla these days!

motherinferior · 24/12/2010 13:14

The birth of a man who thinks he's God isn't such a rare thing...

...but enjoy the festivities, sisters Xmas Grin.

I am enjoying watching Mr Inferior wrap presents while I have a small drink.

TheGruffaloMami · 24/12/2010 13:24

Nadolig llawen :welsh: although it looks suspiciously like the Cornish greeting! Another lurked here who has enjoyed being challenged and educated by this board, even if I am mostly afeminist sell out. End of term report would say B-

Off to google the origins of nadolig llawen as I am hopeful it's more pagan than Christian....

alexpolismum · 24/12/2010 13:38

Gruffalo - I am fairly sure that 'nadolig' means 'birth' or something along those lines, and then 'llawen' will be 'joyful/cheery'.

In Italian it's natale, in Spanish it's navidad, let's face it, they're all pretty similar.

That's one thing I like about the Greek expression - chronia polla. It literally means 'many years', and can be used for many occasions - Christmas, Easter, birthdays, etc. It does not have any religious connotations. I always use it, whatever the occasion. There are religious alternatives available, but you don't have to use them.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 24/12/2010 13:38

I wonder now what my feminism end of term report would be

probably a straight B, I think

pretty good, could do better

too much talking at the back of class...

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 24/12/2010 13:46

Well the Welsh and Cornish languages are incredibly similar, along with Breton. They are brythonic (sp?) celtic languages, from the days before the Anglo Saxons. We're British, basically, not Anglish. We just pushed out to the edges - or the Romans/Anglo-Saxons couldn't be arsed to go so far into the wilderness Xmas Grin and so, me and Gruffalo are speaking the same language.

And Celts had warrior women you know.

What are Welsh Christmas carols like then?

OP posts:
alexpolismum · 24/12/2010 14:04

Apparently 'deck the halls' is based on a traditional Welsh Carol.

or you might try this

Happy Egalitarian Winter Solstice! Grin No potato peeling going on here, we are having a drink while considering going to the pub.

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 24/12/2010 23:31

Good for you Fennel, I've just got back am now settling down to wrap presents at midnight.

New Year's Resolution? Be nicer to everyone, and take down the patriarchy. Not necessarily at the same time of course...

merry christmas everyone!

HerBeatitude · 25/12/2010 00:52

Merry christmas.

Can't believe I'm still up. I need to wrap this computer up. Have just installed Skype and I-tunes and wireless network on it and set myself up as administrator so DS can't change settings... it is incredible how long it can take to do simple little things on a computer (particularly if you get distracted by mumsnet threads in between).

It is actually christmas!

ElfPantsAtMidnightMass · 25/12/2010 00:53

Merry Merry Christmas HerBeatitude & the little Beatitudes. That isn't the real time is it?

Need more mulled wine and a little dance around the room I think.

Happy Christmas everybody- peace and good will to all women!

SantasSackura · 25/12/2010 04:28

Ooh, Nadolig Llawen pawb Xmas Smile
Nearly had a nervous breakdown in the end trying to do the wrapping at 1:00 a.m. So much for my "creative outlet" poncing...

Ah, missed this but I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas, since posting and being educated here I have a little more purpose to my life....which sounds sickly and twee, but without this section I wouldn't have done the soul searching which lead me to the conference!

Thanks people.

TheFeministParent · 26/12/2010 15:40

My resolution is to attend the local feminist meetings and one million woman march!!
