Don't know where that saying comes from!!

Not me, although I am attending a local protest about equal tomorrow in Bristol.

AliceWorld · 29/10/2010 12:47

PJs are cos Tesco banned people from wearing PJs as they are offensive, so it is making the point that PJs are seen as more offensive by Tesco than 'lad's mags'

thefinerthingsinlife · 29/10/2010 12:49

They are wearing their PJs to highlight the hipocracy that Tesco won't allow shoppers in the store wearing PJs but will sell magazines with half naked/nearly naked girls/women.

Good point made by OBJECT....hope to see it grace our news tonight.

AliceWorld · 29/10/2010 12:53

Well at least no-one will need to ask now TFTIL Wink

Don't hold your breath Posie, they have done it lots of times. They do get some media coverage sometimes but I don't think it will be on the news.

EvilAntsAndMiasmas · 29/10/2010 13:29

I'd love to do it too but I don't have any pyjamas...Blush

When Bob Guccione died, Object's feminist Friday's did get a mention on the news story about it on Channel 4.

Object do them every month and they don't usually get a mention, as AliceWorld says, but they occasionally get mentioned in a national press story and not long ago got its own story in the Guardian (I think it was).

Posie - we did one in Bristol last March, before joining the Reclaim the Night march. It was great! About 8 of us in PJs (ok, I chickened out of the PJs!), did 4 stores around Bristol. The manager of the Tesco on College Green agreed with us and left our "Every Little Harms" doctored Tesco signs there (he hadn't seen them, he said!).

AliceWorld · 29/10/2010 13:34

Sorry didn't want to sound like I was saying Object don't get press - I agree Jess they do well at getting things in the press, given the lack of coverage of these types of things.

JessinAvalon · 29/10/2010 13:43

AliceWorld - sorry - I didn't want it to appear that I was trying to contradict you as you're right. What sounds like something that should make the news rarely does on the day itself. I thought I'd just let people know that Object are plugging away and do occasionally get a mention in the media.

At the first one they did, a police armed response van turned up! Bit of an overreaction for some women with paper bags! The police actually (personally) agreed with the protest and were annoyed to have been called out!

If you search for Object and feminist Fridays you might find the clip of the huge protest they did in Tesco where 30 of them did a conga around the store. There is a brief interview with the guy who set up the Anti-Porn Men website too as he was there.

AliceWorld · 29/10/2010 13:50

Sorry Jess didn't mean to make you sorry either Smile.

lol turned up in an armed response van!
