Phallic symbols; do they exist, do they bother you?

I am prepared to be educated, here. But it's one of those old feminist (anti-feminist) canards, that there are hidden phallic symbols everywhere.

Are there? And if so, should I care about it?

No I don't think there are phallic symbols everywhere so no you shouldn't be bothered.

Truth is that at a biological level you need male and female hence the phallus has become a symbol of male potency. In ancient Rome houses would have a wooden or carved phallus above the door as a good luck charm - rather as horseshoes are viewed today.

I think some feminists have been, and still are, in danger of being too dogmatic in their views but maybe it's to do with age! Having been there and done it all I've calmed down a bit!

Not sure I really understand your OP, partly because canards are ducks and I have never actually found out what else. BUT from personal observation it is veeeeeery irritating when any common object that is basically oblong/cylindrical is called "phallic". "Ooh, a pen, that's a bit phallic isn't it?" No, you need a pointy shape for writing with, you sad man.

You never get people talking about the vagina-ish shape of the Olympic rings, or calamari being a bit cervix-like. It's all at the level of kids wanting to say rude words IMO (or bring the conversation back to their Mighy Cocks, lest we forget).
