Coping with Trolls and Derailers

There have been some very persistent posters on here recently - some of them funny (unintentionally), and some of them not - dragging threads off track so we have to go back and explain something over and over again. I'm all for a lively debate, but there always comes a point when you realise that they are not listening at all, are on a blatant wind-up mission, or are just insulting posters with no intention of debating the original issues.

If we don't want this to happen, and bearing in mind that some people spot the pattern quicker than others, I was going to suggest that we have something like a warning word/phrase that could alert other posters to the fact that they are wasting their time. What do you think? Is this a stupid idea?

Saying "ah, a troll" just adds fuel to the fire you see. But if you were to say "I blame Princess Michael of Kent" or something, and then everyone disappears...well it might work? Grin

Dittany I agree, I am especially interested in the FOSH who have daughters.

Let us hear it.

woodstonobserver · 14/08/2010 00:16

Aitch, "it was a book"!

If he was truly the monster you portray, my girlfriends would not talk so highly of him.

ColdComfortFarm · 14/08/2010 00:17

I'm so sorry Prolesworth. Hard not to reply, but you are right. ANyway, time for this pillowed lap hound of hell to hit the pillow. Night night.

nasdaq · 14/08/2010 00:18

Prolesworth - you are right - they are not worth it.

They do not care.

I really do hope they do not have any children.

slightreturn · 14/08/2010 00:22

dittany , i'll pass the link to this site onto a few of them and they will leave you their views...ok?

Sorry, I appear to have overlooked some messages here before my last post.

Now I realise I should be saying ha fucking ha for a man who wrote such rip-roaring funny stuff about how he despised women to the extent that's been oulined here.

Why did he consistently write such woman-hating crap?

Oh, I forgot - his book and his newspaper articles were all to be taken in jest! Never mind if they called for women to be taken (literally) apart. Pardon me for being unable to see the humour in all that.

Well done, Kate.

PrincessFiorimonde.....why don't you just find out a little more..maybe read his book...his humour and witt spread further than the 'women' stuff...he had a humorous pop and many many things..

Well obviously the piece is horrible and degrading to women and as a single mum with a daughter I don't like it as all.

But then again I don't like Eastenders or the story lines in that. There was a murder in Eastenders recently? Do I therefore villify the writers and actors of Eastenders? No I do not.

nasdaq · 14/08/2010 00:39

Goodbye all - I have well and truly had it with the infiltration.

No more for me.

ladysoandso · 14/08/2010 01:07

It's like groundhog day here.

Bye nasdaq and well done.

A friend of mine worked in a 'high class' brothel as a receptionist. It was expensive and the men were wealthy. The woman worked for themselves - there was no pimp. They were all jaded and all but one had a girlfriend since they worked there. They were all repulsed by men. At least once a day a man would come in with his arse smelling of shit. Luckily there was a shower. Imagine what those poor woman have to deal with for £15 at Kings Cross.

I have learnt a lot here in the last 2 days. Some of those links from Proles about trafficking were pretty hard to stomach. The SH quotes were hard to stomach too. I've had an eduction here and I wasn't that clueless to start with. I do hope that the fosh take time to read them and sit for a while and reflect and take it all in.

AvidDiva · 14/08/2010 01:17

For me the most shocking thing is that anybody would even try and offer a defense of those quotes. That anybody might think insisting they're written for shocking, comedic effect is some kind of a defense.

I think the general trollery and derailment has actually been dealt with pretty well. The outbreak of ... madness hasn't managed to stop genuine debate. I think we've had one determined and quite unwell person banging away under different names. The odds of so many new, ideological pals all turning up and all sprinkling ... through their posts is unfeasible. Unless it's the secret signal of the rabid misogynista club.

SolidGoldBrass · 14/08/2010 01:34

Maybe it is. Maybe those dots represent how they think about their own tiny little ineffectual willies.

woodstonobserver · 14/08/2010 01:40

A good link here that says it how it is far better than I can:

AvidDiva · 14/08/2010 01:48

I reckon we're onto something, SGB. It's the radical misogynistas riding in to town and sprinkling ... in their wake like trail.
