I'm reading The equality Illusion and it gives some infomation about this , I am absolutely disgusted this man is still a judge.

no. it ensures a slap round the face

quaere · 05/08/2010 21:51

Is he saying that because the only way he could ever get a shag would be by forcing someone?

How awful is it that in Russia you have to let someone have access to your body in order to get a job, good marks or anything else?

Sakura · 06/08/2010 01:04

Ok, the dodgiest thing about this is that the Telegraph is reporting it as news.

Read Susan Faludi's Backlash and you'll see why.

The point isn't "OMG look how sexist the Russians are", the real point is
"See women, look at this title "sexual harassment okay as it ensures breeding, and oooh it might even be true, and we're going to scourge the planet for these kinds of irrelevant stories instead of focusing on the real and pressing problems, and asking the real questions, such as why on earth a man has been jailed for only 18 months for killing his wife.
Or why there's no media outcry against a man who walked away from court with not so much as a tut from the judge after sadistically damaging his baby son and rupturing the baby's internal organs.

All the real issues are just glossed over, and it's starting to annoy me a little.

Sakura · 06/08/2010 01:07

not saying it's not a real issue, of course, but just saying that there'll be lots of people looking at that title and thinking 'hmm, maybe that judge is right, hmm"

ISNT · 06/08/2010 09:43

Good grief.

And I hate to say it but I think, in fact I'm sure, that Sakura has a point.

Sakura, I agree with you.

msrisotto · 06/08/2010 12:33

Ah come on, that headline was so tongue in cheek, surely anyone would read it that way.

BTW, the judge should be struck off, that is appalling.

Sakura · 06/08/2010 15:19

"surely anyone would read it that way."

Yep, even thickos like me

Sakura · 06/08/2010 15:24

Oh, see what you mean, Blush
Yes, it's tongue in cheek but it plants the seeds, doesn't it. It gives validation to all the people who secretly, deep down inside believe that maybe sexual harassment really is just women making a fuss over nothing.

msrisotto · 06/08/2010 16:11

I hope not, sometimes I think I must live a very sheltered life because I can't imagine anyone I know think of that headline as validation, rather as sarcasm which has the opposite effect imo.

quaere · 06/08/2010 20:09

No I kind of agree with Sakura

claig · 06/08/2010 20:42

agree with Sakura. It is downplaying sexual harassment and equating it with making a pass.
