If you could choose any size/shape breasts, what would you choose and why?

I know it’s an odd / personal question, so obviously only answer if you’re comfortable to. Asking for my cousin who is having preventive reconstructive surgery and unsure which way to go. Thanks.

Small and unobtrusive.

Nobody needs massive norks: they get in the way, it's difficult to find clothes to fit, and you don't want men's attitude towards you informed by their ogling observations of your body.

SauronsArsehole · 09/04/2026 15:43

mine are big and it feels like I’ve got swamp ass… in my bra if I do any kind of physical activity or my regular job. They’re Too big a seat belt doesn’t sit properly, not great as I’ll end up with a neck injury if the adjuster is crap. Too big that I need a 2xl hi vis and the bottom flaps in the wind (snagging nightmare) minimiser bras aid with most of these but increase the swamp ass feeling

so… small enough I can get away with not wearing a bra or at the very least a bra that doesn’t require significant scaffolding and sweat pads if I’m wearing a nice dress.

MooBaggage · 09/04/2026 15:49

Flat, non-existent, minimal boobs are my dream... I have huge boobs and absolutely hate them. I've lost a lot of weight over the past year but the boobs are still the biggest thing about me and I wish they'd just sodding well give up and go!

BlueRaspberry7 · 09/04/2026 15:52

@MooBaggage sorry you feel that way in your body. Would you go completely flat then if you had the option?

I've always had small boobs (generally between 30A and a 32B/34A as an adult), the only reason I might want them larger is that I have a relatively large waist, so I've never been able to wear strapless tops or shirt dresses because of the mismatch.

After having my second kid I was a 30C which was a nice size, but still didn't quite match up to my waistline. TBH the size boobs I'd need to balance up would probably be too big in other ways. I think I know far more women who find their boobs too big rather than too small.

I don't know what the different shapes are though.

henlake7 · 09/04/2026 15:54

Id be happy if mine looked how they do in a decent bra right now!
(thanks to extreme weight loss without the bra they are spaniel ears).

LargeAmericanoQuick · 09/04/2026 15:56

The type of small boobs that don't need a bra would be my ideal. But that's because I've got relatively large boobs on a small frame.

It'll be like everything else, everyone would want the opposite of what they've got, I imagine.

GingerLeopard · 09/04/2026 15:57

I'd choose a B cup. I would love to have small boobs, mine are naturally quite big and are just annoying! They spoil outfits and get in the way!

MJFEB2026 · 09/04/2026 15:57

32 DDs ☺️

that’s a very good point on keeping bodily portions in mind.

re. Shape - the choice is between rounded and teardrop.

Another vote for small enough to go braless. In fact, barely there would be my choice.

Yes I absolutely would - but no chance of that. I'm hoping they shrink a bit over the next year or so as I lose more weight - fingers crossed...!

CointreauVersial · 09/04/2026 15:59

I think mine are pretty perfect! Not too big, not too small, C/D cup, haven't really sagged over the years. There aren't many of my features that I like, but my boobs are just right.

dreamlove · 09/04/2026 16:00

Depends what would suit her frame as well
mine look in proportion with me (but I’m a 34KK)

3luckystars · 09/04/2026 16:00

I would love big huge fake looking ones. Not practical but I think they look amazing. I would love them, but I know most people don’t like them. I could never put the implant into my body though as I would likely get very ill. I had breast surgery last year and barely survived it.

I think going for upright and perky is the safest option for the future and best wishes to your cousin x

7238SM · 09/04/2026 16:01

The surgeon and/or surgical nursing team should be providing a rough guide to what would be most aesthetically fitting for her body shape/chest size etc. Of course the patient has some say, but be guided by the advice/experience of the professionals.

What is her size currently? Is she happy with that? If yes/no then that should be her starting point to speak to the team about.

I'm not sure asking randoms online to discuss their own breast shape/size is helpful and makes me wonder if this isn't a dodgy perv asking!

goodnessidontknow · 09/04/2026 16:02

Shape is a difficult one, I like the size of mine but they have always been very bottom heavy so I would like them to be more rounded but that can look less natural when you're talking about reconstruction.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 09/04/2026 16:03

Mine when I was younger. 28D or E. I’m now closer to a G cup. Luckily they’re still fairly firm. I still like them, one of my best assets.

Alouest · 09/04/2026 16:06

I've had smaller breasts and medium sized breasts and I think smaller is definitely better. I'm currently a 30F which is sort of medium sized and it's way more of a nuisance even though only a few sizes larger than when I was a 30C or 30D which I consider to be around the perfect size. Clothes look better, sports bras are cheaper and don't need industrial construction, you look slimmer and you can run for a bus without it hurting.

I've also been smaller than that and that was a bit too small but I was very young so sort of got away with it - I think it would look odd at my age.

KimMumsnet · 09/04/2026 16:07

Hi, OP. We hope you don't mind, but we've moved your thread from the Chat board to Women's Health, just because of the nature of the topic.

LastHotel · 09/04/2026 16:07

None at all. I’ve had breast cancer three times. I wish I’d never had breasts. I had small perky breasts.

CleanSkin · 09/04/2026 16:07

Symmetry would be a nice start, rather than the 2 cup size difference of the last 40 years.

Pollpoll · 09/04/2026 16:07

I'd stick with what I have. Quite small, a cup, but not completely flat. With a good bra I can get some shape but there's no droop or bounce.
It's not true that you can go bra less with small breasts, mine hurt.
I had breast cancer a few years ago and a lumpectomy so one side has a chunk missing. I would have gone flat if I'd had a mastectomy but the surgeon insisted that my predicted outcome was exactly the same with a lumpectomy.

TwistedRoses · 09/04/2026 16:08

Bigger than what they are now but not too big as I think mine are small im C so maybe E

OverlyFragrant · 09/04/2026 16:09

This really depends on someones frame.
I'm average height but with wide shoulders and hips, so my G cups don't look completely massive.
On someone slender with a tiny frame, they'd look humongous.
