Oh no i use tampons!

I have to use pads and tampons due to a very heavy flow. I’ve never liked pads anyway since being a teen when my periods were lighter (got much heavier in my 40s). Tried a moon cup but could not get it inserted properly- followed the instructions and tried several times. Don’t like the idea of period pants. Yes we should have access to safe products and be fully informed, but we shouldn’t judge other women for what they chose to use.

You are naive

Look you dont have to believe it. Believe what you want.

I-m just sharing my own experience which i'm entitled to do.

What do you think about the OPs post about toxicity in tampons?

Edited

It’s not about believiNg. If there is extra blood, it needs to come from somewhere. So where is it coming from? How?

I already said what I think. I don’t like that the specific brand wasn’t named. I don’t like that we don’t have results for the other 14 brands. I don’t like that it’s not specific whether it’s a brand issue or a batch issue.

here's a thought.....you are losing the same amount of womb lining over a longer period of time?

Why were my cramps a lot worse when i used tampons?

Another poster on this thread wrote that her cramps were a lot worse when she used tampons too

Back in the 80s there were loads of warnings about some brands especially:
scented (no need for scent)
Plastic guide tubes with the rounded ends as these open up with moisture and there were cases of internal damage . Cardboard or non-applicator were safer , not to mention the amount of single use plastic
Super absorbancy - increased risk of TSS ( Toxic Shock Syndrome )

I haven't used them for decades but it is shocking that there are still problems

the TSS thing was using a more absorbent one than necessary in order to leave it in for longer or "losing" one in there and not removing it....nothing to do with super absorbent ones being dangerous in themselves.

I can get that, for some women, walking around with something inserted into one's vagina at a time when hormones are in full swing, could cause more cramping....that says that they might not be the best option for those people, not that they are a bad thing.

natalieplusone · 30/05/2025 11:49

I love tampons 😬 I'm just used to them and never had any issues. Booo

Tbh neither doni, I just use the poppers and fold them in on themselves. People promote PUL as a waterproof option but tbh you don't really need one x

And put them where? Because the bin is where I put used sanitary products.

Whereas mine improved.

Well they are reusable so in my bag or in my pocket on my way to my bag. The backing is waterproof so they can't leak and are fully enclosed and as above, dont smell.

Riaanna · 30/05/2025 12:16

Average day on my period for me. I insert a super tampon and pop one in my pocket. I go out for the day - no bag. And if I had a bag I would definitely not be putting a used sanitary towel in it. Gross.

It was highlighted on the packaging that you only use the absorbancy that you need yes . And there was a lot of controversy about using overnight .
I am so glad I am through with this stage in my life !

Here We Flo claim not to include any nasties, I’ve just placed an order online but looks like they stock in Holland and Barrett. I do use tampax but usually only the first couple of days. Will be throwing those away now!

PinkSparklyPussyCat · 30/05/2025 12:55

I use TOTM tampons and they are organic and don’t contain glysophate.

Igotupagain · 30/05/2025 12:59

I used tampons for years but had to double up sometimes with pads. Then I realised that when I used just a pad backed up with period pants, I feel much more comfortable in pads. Surprised myself because I had previously hated the idea of going around in “soiled” pants. It’s hard to describe why pads feel better but let’s say I feel less “bunged up” and less bloated.
I switched to organic products prior to that (thrush prevention). Also tried mooncups but don’t really like them for several reasons.
Now the very thought of having chemically treated wadding stuffed internally and repeatedly for several days makes me clench.

QuantumPanic · 30/05/2025 14:26

OchAyeTheNo0 · 30/05/2025 08:46

I used the mooncup for years but went back to pads and have stuck with them. Tried reusable ones but they were shit. About to try some organic pads as I hate the plasticky ones.

Also used mooncup for years, now use natracare organic disposable pads. They're super comfy.

Period pain is caused by the uterus contracting to shed the lining. It is triggered by hormones. A lot of people on here are claiming that using a moon cup stops cramps and tampons cause them. How can this be? It doesn’t really make sense to me

The theory here would be that the chemicals ar leaching into the area and causing pain as the body will try its best to detox these out.

justasking111 · 30/05/2025 14:31

It stands to reason that anything you insert can leach into the body. Hrt cream is inserted for atrophy

Life was simple with Dr Whites sigh ..

I thought it's because the tampon becomes weighty, probably heavier than a cup, and drags downwards and expands to put pressure on the surrounding tissue.

I found cups cause very bad pain and cramps and a dragging feeling. I much prefer tampons.

Also in Boots and Amazon and Sains and Tesco.

Also a brand called TOTM (time of the month) are similar to Flo, just been reading about them!

Mostly used towels - tampons for wearing white or swimming /sweaty things.
DM always worried about things ‘travelling’ within your body” not literally but whatever chemicals they may contain.

So to the posters throwing around the word "nonsense" what do you think about the OP's post, where a study says that there is a huge level of toxcitiy in tampons?

Is that nonsense too

The OP’s post is based on one newspaper article, which is based on one study, which found high levels of a particular chemical in one single box of tampons (of an undisclosed brand).

It is not possible to draw the conclusion from that that there is a “huge level of toxicity in tampons”. Hence, it’s nonsense.
