You need to brush up on basic biology. Menstruation does not involve a wound.

YOU need to brush up on basic biology and learn about the definition of physiological wound.

SlaveToMyFanny · 30/05/2025 10:55

Well, I'm a biologist - it's really not a wound.

Larna4t · 30/05/2025 11:05

Some one that works in a pharmaceutical company told me that things are added to tampons to make women bleed a lot more

So they buy more tampons

And do you believe them? Did you ask for more information?

Dpresst · 30/05/2025 11:10

Women’s wellbeing is not a priority. This doesn’t surprise me at all.

SlaveToMyFanny · 30/05/2025 10:55

Well, I'm a biologist - it's really not a wound.

I don't think you need to be a biologist to know it's not a wound, just someone who has a basic understanding of their own body.

Larna4t · 30/05/2025 11:13

rosemarble · 30/05/2025 11:09

Yes I definitely believe them

Ive talked to people at different times of my life, who used to work in pharmaceutical sales.

They left to work in a different career.

One woman said to me that she left the job because she felt so bad about wjat was happening. She said that big pharma keeps people sick, or makes them more sick, so that they can make more money.

Larna4t · 30/05/2025 11:15

If you think about it , if pharmaceutical companies make money from us by selling us products when we are sick, why would they want our health to get better

Same with period products, if we bleed more, they sell more products and make more money

MumblingsonMN · 30/05/2025 11:17

'fraid I read it as a typical Guardian article.
It's short on science and doesn't show any real proof.
But is trying to be 'feminist' and sensational as well.

I agree with another poster that we are probably ingesting a hell of a lot worse and more with our food unless it's 100% organic, no plastic, mercury, etc. And also air pollution.

Not saying ignore it completely, but I wonder if a silicone mooncup is any better?

Not all women can use mooncups. There was some medical advice around a year or so ago saying women with prolapse (which is almost 50% of women who gave birth) should not use them as the squatting to remove can make it worse.

They also surely need access to a sink - in private?

Total nonsense. You bleed according to how much womb lining you have. That depends on your own hormones, not something in a tampon.

WhenYouSayNothingAtAll · 30/05/2025 11:17

She didn't say.

I was only talking to her briefly as we were in a large group and she moved on

Im not a scientist but i could guess at it
Surely theres some chemical that would worsen bleeding?

Nonsense that a pharma compamy could be corrupt?

Right.

No there isn't.

She was making it up.

You bleed according to your womb lining.

Putting something in a tampon can't change that unless it a massive dose of estrogen to stimulate the womb lining to grow. And then it would take a cycle before it worked.

Total nonsense.

No, nonsense that there is something in a tampon that can change your own bleeding pattern.

SlaveToMyFanny · 30/05/2025 11:22

@rosemarble, I know 😄 - I was just trying to lend some credence to the, well, fact, in the hopes of the poster either accepting it or doing some reading around it.

Well do your own studies.

After.she said it to me. I did my own research.

I used tampoms for the whole of my next three periods. My periods lasted for seven days

I used reusable pads for the next three periods after that
My periods lasted for 4-5 days each month.

I also had worse cramps when I was using the tampons

Larna4t · 30/05/2025 11:26

So to the posters throwing around the word "nonsense" what do you think about the OP's post, where a study says that there is a huge level of toxcitiy in tampons?

Is that nonsense too

Where’s the extra blood coming from?

DreamyRedNewt · 30/05/2025 11:29

Tampons have been around for decades and are cotton, I think that if there was something significant affecting our health, we would have known by now. I'd rather put a tampon inside my body rather than a piece of plastic to be honest. My instinct tells me that having a piece of plastic inside me is not a good idea..

godmum56 · 30/05/2025 11:29

Rainallnight · 30/05/2025 06:35

Hoooolllld on. If you go to the organisation’s own website about this, they say they tested 15 boxes of tampons and highlight particularly high levels of the pesticide in one of them. It doesn’t say what they found in the other 14 boxes.

If they want to protect women’s health, why not say which were the brands with lower levels so people can choose?

This feels like a piece of ‘research’ used selectively to support a particular campaign message, rather than something that should dictate what we put up our fanjos.

this. I would question the impartiality of the people who did the reasearch, also this about glyphosate. https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/causes-of-cancer/cancer-myths-questions/do-pesticides-cause-cancer

I am not saying that the article is true or not true, worrying or not worrying. What i am saying is that I doubt the validity. I would also say that its a bit unrealistic to focus on testing for one thing and nothing else that could be a potential risk. Instead the choice is to focus on one knee jerk substance (glyphosate) and one knee jerk illness (cancer)

Do pesticides cause cancer?

Pesticides on your food or used at low levels in your garden are unlikely to cause cancer.

Look you dont have to believe it. Believe what you want.

I-m just sharing my own experience which i'm entitled to do.

What do you think about the OPs post about toxicity in tampons?

here's a thought.....you are losing the same amount of womb lining over a longer period of time?
