Staying at in laws over Christmas and dreading having to deal with this when sleeping in someone else’s bedsheets.

Tampon and the long night towels? Or the absorbant pants (never tried) or those absorbant mini sheets you can get in the baby aisles

Is transexamic acid an option for you, on prescription? Reduces period flow.

rainbowbee · 24/11/2024 21:00

I use a cup and double up with a pad in big knickers at night. You could swap those for period pants (haven't personally tried but heard good reports). Bring your own mattress cover and sheet if things are really bad.

Purplerain1144 · 24/11/2024 21:01

Tampon and period pants. I used to set an alarm to change as well. Sleep on an old towel

period pants and a tampon. Set your alarm to change in the middle of the night.

Needmorelego · 24/11/2024 21:01

I'm sure your mother in-law has had her share of periods over the years.
Just let her know if the sheets need changing.

This.

It’s given me such more freedom. Never have an accident now.

Toastandmarmiteandtea · 24/11/2024 21:03

Sometimes at night I use the really thick (nappy thick) pads on top of normal winged pads. I use two of the thick pads - one in normal position and one behind it.

TheShellBeach · 24/11/2024 21:03

Don't overshare.

TigerOnTour · 24/11/2024 21:03

Tena lady pants and lie on a towel.

LifesABeachx · 24/11/2024 21:03

Another one for period pants, boxer type ones along with a maxi pad.
It can feel quite padded / uncomfortable but always worked for me!

SirChenjins · 24/11/2024 21:03

Period pants, long nighttime towel, tampon and tranexamic acid.

Octaviathethird · 24/11/2024 21:04

I always take a waterproof mattress protector and sort of wrap myself in it, I find I leak on to the duvet, as well as the sheet. Hate it when my period is due and we're staying somewhere else, especially holiday lets with massive damage deposits and no bloody washing machine!

Beepbeepoutoftheway · 24/11/2024 21:04

Double (or triple) up your pads, big knickers, own sheets and puppy pad under the sheet so no leaks onto mattress

Fromage · 24/11/2024 21:05

One pad in the usual place and the other across the back of it to make a T shape.

Plus tampons etc and what everyone else has said.

yogasam · 24/11/2024 21:06

When I was really struggling with fibroids before I had my surgery, I used an enormous tampon (Lillets Ultra; they're orange branded), plus a night towel in my normal knickers, then a pair of heavy duty period pants over the top. If I was sleeping at someone else's house, I would have taken a bed pad / potty training pad too.

Untery · 24/11/2024 21:06

Thanks. A few of these things never heard of - the medication. I have bought some period pants but not tried them, but the thick part which looks like it absorbs looks really short iyswim like it doesn’t cover the whole pant which I what I feel like I need. Haven’t thought of tena, maybe that would be an option. Have considered setting an alarm before so may need to do that. It’s a flight away travel so not sure about bringing mattress protector with me

I can't believe people are recommending the OP takes a medication rather than just talking to her mother in law.
Weird.

Untery · 24/11/2024 21:08

Yes sometimes it seems to end up on duvet which is so annoying , I don’t understand how this happens

Menstrual cup + period pants. Ibuprofen can help a bit with heavy bleeding too.

Clueless2024 · 24/11/2024 21:09

If you figure out the answer to this question you'll be a millionaire

FoxtrotOscarKindaDay · 24/11/2024 21:10

Bed pads or toilet training pads can be picked up in stores near wherever you are going rather than needing to take them with you and are more discrete than mattress protection.

Untery · 24/11/2024 21:10

II certainly makes me feel better it’s not just me
