Staying at in laws over Christmas and dreading having to deal with this when sleeping in someone else’s bedsheets.

OP posts:

@StillAtTheRestaurant ok...
Sister in law.
Brother in law.
Whatever.
It shouldn't make a difference. Adults should be able to talk to adults. If the relationship isn't that great I wouldn't stay there.
In my personal opinion.

Pancakewaffle · 24/11/2024 21:25

Those disposable tena pants you can get with a nighttime pad inside. Someone recommended them to me post birth and they are a gamechanger

GG1986 · 24/11/2024 21:25

I would wear knickers with a large size 6 always pad, period pants over the top, then take a thick blanket with you and lie on it or wrap it around you.

Needmorelego · 24/11/2024 21:19

Also seems odd the OP hasn't tried some of these before.......

Some people will literally try and find anyway to pick a fight on MN 🤣

Paulettamcgee · 24/11/2024 21:27

Incontinence pants. Doesn't feel great going to bed in an adult nappy but contains the flooding.

Needmorelego · 24/11/2024 21:27

@BeMintBee one of the first responses (not from me) was not to overshare.
I'm surprised the OP needed a description of an incontinence pad.....🤔

Curioustoknow1 · 24/11/2024 21:27

I always wear two pairs of huge tight fitting pants to hold everything together 🤣 as well as two extra long nighttime sanitary towels & a super-plus tampon - & also put an old towel or blanket underneath me in bed, that way, if I 'leak' it's usually onto the blanket/ old towel.

Soubriquet · 24/11/2024 21:28

What about taking a puppy pad and placing it under you?

literally no idea what you’re talking about mate 🤣

Sweetiedarling2024 · 24/11/2024 21:28

Tampon, large night time pad and then sleep on a bath towel (bring your own). I used to have super heavy flow as a teen and that’s what I had to do.

westcountrywoman · 24/11/2024 21:29

Tampons or menstrual cup with long / night sanitary towel in normal well-fitting knickers to hold it in place, then Tena pants over the top.

Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot · 24/11/2024 21:30

What is wrong with taking a medication designed to delay your period, if it is inconvenient or disruptive though?
I have horrible periods and norethisterone has been genuinely life changing for me for things like holidays and Christmas and festivals and when I just don’t want to be dealing with it.

It is used for this very purpose, it is safe when prescribed correctly and allows me to take ownership over my own body. What exactly is wrong with that?

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 24/11/2024 21:30

Mooncup and period pants. You could get incontinence pants if you're really worried.

Needmorelego · 24/11/2024 21:32

@Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot nothing wrong with taking a medication.
Just odd she has never considered (or heard of it) before.

Fancytrike · 24/11/2024 21:32

After this, look into a Mirena coil. No periods for 15 yrs so far… it’s life changing.

Forgottenwhatitwas · 24/11/2024 21:33

I've taken the medication twice to avoid being on while on holiday, it's not that controversial is it? There might be some side effects but they're short lived and probably preferable. I've had no problems on it personally, it worked a treat. I ordered it online from boots, there's a questionnaire to make sure its suitable for you first.

Needmorelego · 24/11/2024 21:35

Well I have reported this thread.
The OP could be genuine.
Or the OP could be enjoying your tales of heavy periods.
It's up to HQ to decide.
I'm out though.
Goodnight all.

Sparklefroggle · 24/11/2024 21:36

Had to do similar when away this year due to using blood thinners. Puppy pad and a towel in bed. Stopped and changed pads and tampons every 1-2 hours when driving with a puppy pad underneath for backup. Carried a supply of black dog poo bags for disposal and purchased a couple of ‘wet’ bags from Ikea for soiled underwear etc.

Also set an alarm for every 3 hours overnight.

Franjipanl8r · 24/11/2024 21:39

I have chronic heavy periods and always have spectacular leaks to the point I’ve often had to wash sheets at my in-laws but…

I got some of these max flow overnight period pants (the “short” ones) and they’re incredible. I’m between sizes and went for the larger and the pads go all the way up to my armpits (exaggeration obviously).

Mega awesome period pants

I would put a bath sheet down along with ultra maxi sanitary pads.

Black nightclothes as well.

Untery · 24/11/2024 21:06

Thanks. A few of these things never heard of - the medication. I have bought some period pants but not tried them, but the thick part which looks like it absorbs looks really short iyswim like it doesn’t cover the whole pant which I what I feel like I need. Haven’t thought of tena, maybe that would be an option. Have considered setting an alarm before so may need to do that. It’s a flight away travel so not sure about bringing mattress protector with me

do you have fibroids or another medical issue ? It sounds like you are bleeding too heavily. I only ask as I used to bleed like this thinking it was normal and I had a massive fibroid

Needmorelego · 24/11/2024 21:18

@Allthatwegotisthispalebluedot yes I know she didn't ask how to speak to her mother in law.....but I just think it's crazy to suggest starting a medication (that she's never heard of so obviously hasn't taken before) that could have side effects (all medications have that possibility) rather than just talking to her mother in law.
Her mother in law could have a massive pile of mattress protectors, spare sheets, industrial strength stain remover etc and might just shrug "oh well nevermind....stick the sheets in the machine and I'll get some clean ones".

Tranexamic acid is only available on prescription - so if it’s suitable for her then it’s nothing to be scared of.

Alternatively, if you can take it, extra dose of ibuprofen - see online for details.

Maybe she would prefer not to talk to her MIL about it but instead deal with it herself. Perfectly natural response.
