I am due to have a Hysteroscopy tomorrow and to be honest I'm shitting myself.Does anyone here have any experience of having the procedure done and how was it?.

Is that under ga?

Yes it was - let me know if you have any questions

I was discharged at 10am and have been looked after by my adult daughter today which has been lovely! I couldn’t wait for a decent cup of coffee and a shower and have finally had a catch up nap - only an hour but so worth it!

On reflection I’m so disappointed that this third procedure failed. A team of 6 from the Gynae team came to discharge me and go through my understanding of what happened. I was gobsmacked that there were so many of them but from some of the questions it was clear that they did not know my whole history … crikey it’s not hard! Every time you are asked to summarise your issues … the least they can do is read the notes!

The next stage for me is MRI to assess the thickening and the polyp which really is tiny and I’m almost regretting reporting the bleed as the chief man today really played it down and said they may be able to attempt another biopsy via hysteroscopy - I couldn’t believe it!

That’s definitely my least favourite course of action so let’s see what the MRI brings eh?

Oh, and since home my heart rate is down to 80 odd so I’m well chuffed - seems like it was a side effect of the anaesthetic but I am going to try and make some changes to my lifestyle to reduce stress and anxiety 😊

So what will you do if they say they want to attempt a biopsy again?,surely if they've tried and failed 3 times then chances are it will be the same on the fourth try?
How are you today? x

I can’t say I’d welcome a fourth attempt - you should have seen my face when he suggested it! I’m going to see how the scan goes and if it’s just a tiny polyp I may just leave it there. I’m going to look up today what can be seen via a MRI scan - I think they can tell if there’s cancer as I’ve seen ladies say that’s when it gets graded so it makes you wonder why you have to have such an invasive procedure to begin with - let alone 4 attempts!

I’m really groggy today - presumably still a hangover from the anaesthetic and hopefully not an infection. This message has taken me ages to type but I’m very grateful of your support 😊

I can completely understand why you wouldn't want a 4th attempt!,I don't think any woman would.Thats interesting about the MRI scan, not sure why they don't do that first and a Hysteroscopy second,if needed?.I suppose they have their reasons.
Did they say anything to you about having a Mirena Coil put in during the procedure?,they did with me as they said it can help with the thickening/bleeding of the uterus and I agreed and signed the consent form but after the Hysteroscopy they said they weren't able to do it in the end due to my cervix and uterus not playing ball!.
I think if it was just a small Polyp you have and it's not causing any bother or isn't anything sinister then I'd probably leave it alone too!,rather than having to go through everything you have and being no further forward.
I hope you get a good night's sleep and feel better tomorrow 💐x

Morning! I’m feeling a lot better today after a lot of sleep!

I had a Mirena Coil for 4 years in my 40s (I’m 56 now) and back then when it came to be replaced it was stuck! Very similar to what I’ve just been through now actually - first appointment GP surgery, then Gynae attempted to remove with local anaesthetic and failed, then it was successfully removed under GA but they couldn’t get another one in as my uterus clamped shut. Seems like it has been clamped shut ever since then!

I remember after one of my procedures a consultant saying that she thinks some damage was caused by the removal of the coil which had made the entrance to my uterus veer to the right and she had tried to correct it but unfortunately this isn’t written down anywhere so I feel unheard when I try to explain this.

Every appointment I’ve been to I go over my history but feel totally ignored - I wish I’d never started down this route but they do recommend any post meno bleed is investigated don’t they?

One of the team of 6 said something interesting the other day - she asked me when my last period was and I said August 2022 and she said “oh, not that long ago then” … this has left me thinking if this was a period after all?!? What could she have meant?

How are you feeling? 💐

MrBallensWife · 31/08/2024 10:39

Good morning!
I'm feeling very well thankyou, glad you're feeling better too after a lovely long sleep!.
It definitely sounds like your uterus doesn't like to be disturbed lol.Thats awful having to go through all that with the coil removal too,and then having to explain your history over and over again to not be listened to 😡.
I know how you feel about wishing you'd not said anything in the first place but it's better to be safe than sorry,it's just a lot of shit to go through to get the answers!.
I'm in a similar boat about the periods,I was 48 in June and I had a period in March 23 then nothing until April 24,which was only a very light bleed for a day or so,same again early June, then late July.I thought maybe I was really lucky with menopause as I didn't have any symptoms whatsoever, but now I'm thinking I haven't even been through it due to the lack of symptoms and now these bleeds which I think are periods. It was only when I had my smear test the big gap was flagged up and I was referred to gynecology.
They told me anything over 12 months needs to be investigated if bleeding restarts, when did yours restart if your last period was August 22?,Did you get any period like cramps,I did but nothing as bad as I used to get when I had 'real' periods.
X

OP posts:
Welshstaffy · 31/08/2024 11:05

We sound very similar except I was older when entering menopause. The last few years have been like this for me:

Oct 21 - period after approx 8 months without one if I recall correctly
Aug 22 - small period after 10 months
May 23 - started on HRT mainly for flushes
Nov 23 - breakthrough bleed but not like a period so advised to stop HRT and report back any future bleeding
May 24 - flushes stopped and became extremely bloated with some pain low down - I thought I was definitely through it all and was entering the next phase but oh no …
July 24 - 7 day period but not enough to wear a pad if you know what I mean

Could it be one last hoorah? I don’t know.
Could it have been the polyp? No idea.

I’m definitely looking forward to getting the MRI done now and hope I get some clarity/closure.

I have been extremely uncomfortable the last 24 hours with flipping constipation! I’ve not been to the loo since Tuesday 🤦‍♀️

Sorry TMI 😂

Update - I had a phone call at 7.50pm last night from the hospital offering me an MRI today! On a Sunday night! I couldn’t believe it!

Appointment is at 4.15pm so I’ll update again later for info if anyone is interested.

Droolylabradors · 02/09/2024 08:01

@Welshstaffy thats amazing! Good luck.
I fell asleep when I had a MRI it was very relaxing, hopefully your experience will be calm too.

Thank you ☺️ Do you recall if any preparation is needed, eg, full bladder? The chappie on the phone wasn’t very informative and called it a scan or something of my ovaries 😂 He was obviously tasked with filling up slots for today.

I think I will call the imaging department later to check the details!

Droolylabradors · 02/09/2024 08:33

Oh mine was an MRI for my ankle! Is yours with contract dye?

No idea but you could go with a full bladder just in case?!

Droolylabradors · 02/09/2024 08:33

*contrast

Welshstaffy · 02/09/2024 09:07

No idea re contrast dye - thanks for mentioning and I'll add it to my list of questions for when I ring the department!

Hopefully this will get to the bottom of it now instead of you being poked and prodded!
Will you get the results the same day? X

Update post MRI

I phoned the department this morning to clarify and was informed no contrast dye and no full bladder required so off I tootled at 3.30pm for a 4.10pm appointment.

The radiologist team was lovely and we went through the usual questions … any metal in the body, any allergies, any health conditions etc. When it came to confirming no heart issues I thought I better mention the fast heart beat I experienced after my hysteroscopy via GA last week. This threw her a little bit as she was going to give me a Buscopan shot to settle the tummy and bowel area which apparently enables a clearer view of the area - she wanted to confirm with a consultant if it was OK to proceed but they had all gone home. So, unfortunately although the MRI went ahead it was without the Buscopan which I feel is a shame as I have had a very tender and sensitive tummy today - I really hope they were able to get some good images to be able to diagnose.

Anyway, I’m home now and the next wait for the results begins! The images and results now get sent to the referring consultant who will be in touch.

Lavendersquare · 02/09/2024 18:59

I had mine done under GA and was in quite a lot of pain for around 10 days afterwards. There's no way I would consider having it done under local anaesthetic.

Oh I'm keeping everything crossed for you that they get clear images and a good result so you can finally put all this behind you.
Are you worried about the constipation obstructing the view?
Like you say it's just the dreaded wait for the results now.My Hysteroscopy was only last Tuesday so I'll expect to hear something next week at the very, very earliest, they said they'd let me know if I need an MRI scan in due course.
Im quite an overthinker though and try to read between the lines a lot, when the consultant said she didn't put a coil in because my uterus wasn't very receptive to the Hysteroscopy translated to me as they saw something and don't want to put one in until the results are back to confirm their suspicions!.I know I'm being completely ridiculous but all sorts go through your mind!
Fingers, legs and everything crossed for the both of us! x

I was supposed to have a GA but had sedation in the end which they said was a much safer option for me and although I was very anxious about it,it was absolutely fine,I didn't feel a thing and I was conscious enough to talk but super super relaxed and pain free throughout the whole procedure. If I ever needed another one I'd definitely opt for sedation again.
I had period pains for an hour or so afterwards but haven't had any pain or discomfort since.
Has everything settled down for you now? x

Oh I am a fully fledged member of the over thinkers club so we are well suited there 😜 I hope you get your results very very soon!

Something else has happened today - I went for a wee and have wiped a very small amount of pinky white blood/discharge! That has sent me into overdrive again as I have had nothing at all in the week since my (abandoned) hysteroscopy and now this has occurred out of the blue! Just great 🤦‍♀️ I don’t have a named consultant so am not sure I need to notify anyone of this or just keep an eye on the situation until my MRI results come through 🤷‍♀️

MrBallensWife · 04/09/2024 10:28

I’ve decided not to panic and keep an eye on it - I think it may be simply my bits healing after being prodded and poked!

I only had mild period pains in July when I had the surprise period

I've still not had any results back yet so I'm hoping no news is good news?,they did say it would be about 3 weeks though and we've just gone over 2 weeks yesterday so hopefully within the next week or so I should hear something.
Any MRI results back yet for you? X
