Does having a baby in mid to late thirties delay menopause?

Interested in when perimenopause and menopause started for those that had last child in mid - late twenties vs mid - late thirties?

Such an interesting thread. I had recurrent miscarriages trying to have my first baby and then eventually managed to have my first at age 35. Then conceived again quickly and had my second just before I turned 37. My periods have only just returned after extended breastfeeding but I notice more signs of fertility now than I did when TTC my first. I used to have extremely light periods and no fertile cervical mucus to speak of, and now both are much more abundant. I won't be trying for a 3rd so probably won't ever have another scan to check my antral follicle count.

Apparently my grandmother went through the menopause at 52 but my mum doesn't know when she did because she had a Mirena coil. I have a feeling I still have quite a few more years of periods ahead of me though.

I had my last baby at 43 and I went into peri-menopause around 47 that lasted until my last period at 49 and that was that.

OP. This is a super complicated question to answer with population data because women who go through menopause early may not be able to have children in their mid to late thirties. So asking a bunch of mums on mumsnet for there experience isn’t going to help you, it’s just creating a self selecting sample.

Agree - this question is pointless.

you really need a proper study, but there are so many other factors you’d need to consider.

anecdata isn’t going to answer this question.

Only baby at almost 40, 51 now, still have regular 4-weekly periods. Must be perimenopausal but no symptoms.

Same with the periods. Although I am getting hot and sweaty at night and all-over body aches. Had my only at 3 months off 41. 52 now. DM had menopause 50 something. She said it lasts 10 years but I have no idea when hers started as she kept it all to herself

Baby at 35, on HRT & mirena coil fitted at 44 after 3 years of raging hormones, flooding, etc.

Baby at 38. Awful flooding periods from 41 including PMT, night sweats and rages.

Mirena fitted three months ago. Still a bit ragey but feel physically much better.

Haven't had hormones checked. Don't intend to use oral or patch/gel HRT unless symptoms demand it later on. Don't feel the need for it yet
