HELP thrush just won't go!!!!

I have had PERSISTENT thrush since January of this year, it goes for a few days and always ALWAYS comes back. I started anti fungal treatment recently which did get rid of it but almost two weeks within taking it I had to stop, I was getting side effects from the medication like palpitations and stomach pain, I told doctor I wanted to stop the medication and they were convinced it wasn't the medication however I have stopped it look what has happened, symptoms have gone. It was the medication, however now my thrush is back :( I really don't know what to do I am at a loss, I've been tested for diabetes and that's fine I don't have it, so why won't it go! :( it's honestly upsetting me so much it's so so sore and nothing helps and if it does it only goes for a few days and it's back again. I've ordered some vita flora pro biotics but from reading the reviews the initial infection needs to be treated first, thing is nothing treats mine! 🤣😒 so I'm not sure how this will work but I am so hoping it does! Has anyone gone through this? Any advice/tips please?

How does it work?

Garlic has strong antifungal/ antimicrobial properties. I've not tried it myself but the method is popping a raw garlic clove into vag - yeast is killed by the garlic - cured!
I think perhaps eating more garlic or taking garlic capsules may work well too but not as potent or direct, obviously.

I ditched my favourite tight jeans (sigh, they looked so good), and with them went the thrush. Perhaps try only loose cotton clothing down there for a while and see if it helps

I don't think that's the cause I've had it since January :/ I don't really tend to wear jeans either, I'm more of a leggings gal

I had the same (I think peri related) jag couldn't shift it with canesten type treatments and the various flora supplements. The gynae prescribed me Ovestin cream (with a pessary thing) but I'm sure GPs can prescribe it too.

Worked wonders, used it three or four times a month and it seemed to fix the issue after a couple of months.

Seeing as though you're single. Maybe try the ol' garlic up the vag trick? It's renowned apparently. Apparently.

I read this recently . Also live yoghurt has always been recommended for thrush . I like the towel and sit for 30 mins idea. I definitely think stress is a trigger. I also can’t drink one glass of wine without getting it. Cut out all sugar and alcohol. A poor diet will not help.

Sharereportbookmark · 04/04/2023 16:17

I know of people who have had good results using boric acid suppositories.

SofiaAmes · 04/04/2023 16:18

I second the recommendation of Ovestin. Here in the US we mostly use Premarin but it's more or less the same thing. It's an estrogen vaginal cream. It reduces the dryness of your vaginal tissues thereby making it less vulnerable to infections both vaginal and bacterial. Have you checked that there isn't a concurrent bacterial infection? I used to get both at the same time and it wasn't until the doctor acknowledged that that's what was happening and treated me for both at the same time, that it finally got cleared up and then the addition of Premarin (daily for the first month and then 2 or 3 times a week after that) kept it from reoccurring.

I'm due to do another swab at doctors as doctor seems to not believe me that the thrush is still there for some reason... definitely is though. The discharge is very evident. But I will find out, it also looks a little green this time around so I'm wondering if it could also be BV, again, not an STI as I haven't been with anyone in a while now

Cut the sugar. I suffered for so long with recurrent thrush then decided (for dental reasons initially) to stop drinking so much orange juice and boom, no more thrush!

Msgiggles30 · 04/04/2023 22:07

I had the same and I cannot take fluconazole as I have drug allergy to it! I had the pessaries they gave me one to take for a week then once a week for 6 months in the end! It did shift it. Maybe you need a course of the pessaries not just single course.

Msgiggles30 · 04/04/2023 22:07
  • one to take daily
Remaker · 04/04/2023 22:17

I had terrible problems with thrush in my 30s. I think wearing tights and non breathable fabrics made it worse. I found relief from using a douche made with vinegar and water. Does make you smell a bit like a fish & chip shop but very effective. And less messy than yoghurt. Mine seemed to be cyclical with the week leading up to my period the worst time.

Shallow warm bath with tea tree oil, swoosh on bits. Repeat twice a day

Jet888 · 04/04/2023 22:23

Plus actigel

Maple2023 · 04/04/2023 22:26

The oral tablets don't work for me, I have to use the pessary. When I had a bad bout, I used a pessary every month for 6 months regardless of whether I had thrush or not
Took these as well

I took so many fluconazole over a period of time that I became allergic to it. My go to now is frowned on by the establishment (whose gold standard is a high potency steroid ointment). Borax dissolved in very hot water, then put into a portable bidet bath Sit with your bits in the water as hot as possible and as long as possible. It is frowned on for no other reason (as far as I can see) that no studies have been done to assess its effectiveness (no profit margin as it is freely available) Yes, it is an alkali and you start slowly with very small amounts to see what suits you. There are many other homeopathic treatments which you might write off under normal circumstances until you get to the point where you've nothing to lose (but the pain)

Ishouldbeoutside · 04/04/2023 22:31

Someone on here recommended MyYoni which is borax . They found it very effective. I ordered some and then forgot about it.

herlightmaterials · 04/04/2023 22:36

Have you tried the bio actigel stuff for BV? It's really effective.

You really need to do the candida diet. Starve the buggers.

curtaintwitcher23 · 04/04/2023 22:46

Apologies if someone has already mentioned this , I haven't read all the responses, but for me this coincided with peri menopause (early onset at 41) and stopped completely when I started HRT.

Was this on doctors advice? It says online to not take a pessary until 7 days have past after the first one

A sprinkling of tea tree oil on a tampon and bathing the external area with warm water and tea tree oil cleared mine up in two days after canestan didn’t help.

Maple2023 · 04/04/2023 23:13

@emilyyyyloox yes - but it was more than 7 days
The doctor told me to do it once a month so day the 1st of every month for 6 months and that cleared it
It was a sexual health clinic and they were really helpful and sent the swabs off in case it was a different kind of thrush

Thank you, I wish it was as easy for me to visit the gum clinic, it's hard to see anyone! doctor actually told me before I started the anti fungals to just speak to a pharmacist about it and purchase a otc treatment which I kept saying I have already done. I know they are just going to say 'take a otc treatment' once the swab comes back positive again. -_-

for me, womens health - itchy vagina, sore vagina, (i didn't and don't sleep around) as the first sign of diabetes in 2019, ignored by doctors until they were ready and still is.

good luck.
