HELP thrush just won't go!!!!

I have had PERSISTENT thrush since January of this year, it goes for a few days and always ALWAYS comes back. I started anti fungal treatment recently which did get rid of it but almost two weeks within taking it I had to stop, I was getting side effects from the medication like palpitations and stomach pain, I told doctor I wanted to stop the medication and they were convinced it wasn't the medication however I have stopped it look what has happened, symptoms have gone. It was the medication, however now my thrush is back :( I really don't know what to do I am at a loss, I've been tested for diabetes and that's fine I don't have it, so why won't it go! :( it's honestly upsetting me so much it's so so sore and nothing helps and if it does it only goes for a few days and it's back again. I've ordered some vita flora pro biotics but from reading the reviews the initial infection needs to be treated first, thing is nothing treats mine! 🤣😒 so I'm not sure how this will work but I am so hoping it does! Has anyone gone through this? Any advice/tips please?

Has it been proven to be thrush from swabs? Tested for STIs too? Has the thrush been tested for sensitivities - it could be it’s resistant to the anti fungal you’ve been using.

This is a helpful guideline - suggests you might benefit from regular topical treatment if you can’t tolerate the tablets.

If your GP is struggling with this and visit to your local sexual health clinic might help. The team there will be the experts in this.

Yes, positive on swabs and negative for general sti checks.
As mentioned I did take the anti fungal course, but had to stop because of the side effects and it did initially go but now it's back, it's also impossible to get an appointment at a clinic in my area, appointments are released at 8am and honestly they go within seconds it's ridiculous, I'm at a loss :(

I feel your pain - literally. Check out on line Lichen Sclerosus. Symptoms present as Thrush but definitely more serious. They are treatable, it's just (Ha! Ha!) finding the one that suits you. You probably won't get much joy from a GP, so ask to b referred to a knowledgable dermatologist then get a biopsy. PM me if you want more info

Hey I actually do have Lichen Sclerosis, but this is not it, this is definitely thrush. I have all the symptoms, cottage cheese discharge, burning like hell! It's horrible, I would much prefer my general LS symptoms over this it's awful and just never goes :(

Are you on the pill? It can be a side effect.

Also try cutting out sugar.

I'm not any form of birth control, I don't have the greatest diet though!

Are you up to date on your smear tests? The only time I have continusous thruh is when I have cervical cell changes/polyps (not cancer!!)

I last had my smear in 2020 but I haven't had the text for a follow up one yet

It’s not recommended but it works for me.
Sit on a folded old towel, plaster your bits with a tub of natural yogurt. Read a book for 30 mins, then shower, no soap.
Repeat for 2-3 days.
It works as the yogurt resets the natural pH.

I have probiotics coming that targets yeast infections, I'm not sure how well they will work though, I'm terrified off putting yoghurt down there though🫣

It's awful isn't it. I now have a monthly tablet, (Fluconazole 150mg) which has worked wonders for me. If that was what caused your side effects, I was using an internal cream called GynoDaktarin from the doctors which took a day or two to work but kept it away for a few months.

No OTC medicines would touch it but these two worked well for me. Hopefully one or the other will work for you too. I recently had a smear and nothing showed up, I was worried it was something nefarious causing my constant thrush but luckily it's not.

Yeah it was the fluconazole 😪 sad thing is it was actually working, but now I stopped it it's back it's so upsetting, does the cream have to be prescribed?

Emily, check your. diet, cut out sugar including hidden sugars and alcohol, buy LIVE yoghurt, soak a tampax in it and boldly shove it up, so soothing, avoid scented soaps etc.. Antibiotics destroy good bacteria in the vagina so you could be on a cystitis/thrush merry go round, also use condoms. My gp advised that my husband needed to apply Canestan as we could be passing thrush backwards and forwards, unwittingly.
My midwife friend suggested sitting in a cool bath with salt in and splash it locally, or vinegar! you will smell like a bag of chips but hopefully soothed. Good Luck !

Nicecow · 04/04/2023 12:47

I used to get this constantly and then it just stopped after a few years. I used to do a back to back dose of the strong canestan creme. You also have to be careful as your partner can pass it back to you. Antobiotics also dont help. I will never know for sure, but when I used to keep getting it I was having a really tough time in my relationship with alot of stress and not much sleep, could this be a factor for you?

Sasha07 · 04/04/2023 12:53

@emilyyyyloox that's a shame! Yes, as far as I know, definitely ask the doctor if you can try it! It's brilliant stuff.

Just here to commiserate OP. In 2016 I was on weekly fluconazole for a year following months of repeated bouts. Then all was fine until 2022 when I got really ill and had to take antibiotics. Since then it's been regular again, and I've recently finished a 6 month course 😞

Like you I've been rated repeatedly for diabetes, and don't have a partner.

I now also have lichen simplex chronicus as a result, which is also annoying.

Sigh, it's so awful! thing is I don't think I can tolerate fluconazole which is odd because before I started the treatment I was buying otc tablets for it but I just didn't have it in the high dose that I did, it just triggered all the awful symptoms, it just won't go I don't understand 😪

Seeing as though you're single. Maybe try the ol' garlic up the vag trick? It's renowned apparently. Apparently.

Possiblynotever · 04/04/2023 14:54

I have it. In my case sugar is the problem, a no sugar diet does wonders coupled with Mannose (2g a day) and..yes, yogurt.
Go on a very balanced, little carb diet

This is the only thing I can think potentially as my diet is not great, but my diet has never been great really and truly! So idk why now it chooses to do this :(

I strongly recommend the candida diet. You can look it up. It's very restrictive so you need to take vitamins at the same time. Worth a try if you're in so much discomfort.
