I've got to see the Dr in 1 hour to have my vagina inspected

Dreading it. So embarrassed. I've asked for a female Dr. I know they've seen it all before and worse and the Dr has one herself. It's the indignity of it all.
I just want to cry.
I have to go today. There is no choice.

I'm having a shower now to make sure at least things are all washed down there

Just keep in your mind that she's probably seen more than a hundred vaginas this year. For her it's another day at work. You can do this!!Flowers

LeMoo · 10/11/2022 13:07

I'm sorry you're finding the prospect so difficult and I'm assuming there's worry behind the need to see a doctor in the first place so I hope it's nothing serious.

It'll be ok. Try to keep breathing calming breaths and don't be afraid to ask for a break if you need a minute.

MrsPnut · 10/11/2022 13:08

They really have seen it all, and having had quite serious issues myself - I am so used to stripping off either the top or bottom half for examinations but there is still a bit of apprehension when it is someone new to me.

Good luck, hopefully it's something that can be treated fairly easily.

Beamur · 10/11/2022 13:09

Massive handhold from me. I finally had a smear recently after putting it off for more than a year.
Deep breaths and keep calm. It will all be over soon.

KEG05 · 10/11/2022 13:09

it will be ok op. I work in theatres and I’ve seen a lot of vaginas. You don’t even look at it you look for what your looking for of that makes sense. They all just blur into one another. If it needs seeing to your 100% right to go and get it checked out ❤️.

Treesuphooray · 10/11/2022 13:15

Honestly they are usually brilliant at putting you at ease.

to have embryos reinserted for IVF you end up on a bed level with Drs face with a bright lamp shining in your bits. Sounds utterly horrendous but they are women, they get how you are feeling and are brilliant at chatting and making it feel ok.

I had a lovely laugh and chat last time.

you can do this OP and it will be but a memory by mid afternoon !

Knittingnanny2 · 10/11/2022 13:15

I get it. I’m late 60’s and have always dreaded “ inspections” despite giving birth 3 times. I’m seeing a consultant currently for a prolapse and even though he is the kindest gentlest man, I’m a sobbing wreck for 24 hours before
ive been given proprananol to take before the appointments but not sure they really help.
I know it doesn’t really help but it will be all over by t tomorrow.
I once had a kind nurse do a smear lying on my side which was much more of a calm experience but the other times the nurses said it wasn’t good for getting a useable sample.

hairbear100 · 10/11/2022 13:18

Thanks all.
Was hoping to lighten it a little by saying something like 'I'm embarrassed for you to see my fanny and I'm sure you've got better things to be doing today, so have a quick ganders and then it's all done".
I bet I don't though !
I'll have huge anxiety. Trying to tell myself that at the end of the day its just a vagina, no different to a boob - or any other body part - and I get those out on the beach ! It's 15-20 mins then we each go on our own ways.
I've got a smear next month. I dread those

It could be a man Dr though. I've never seen a woman, it's always a bloke.

PortiasBiscuit · 10/11/2022 13:19

You see, I’ve always felt that I would rather have my own vagina inspected than have inspect someone else’s.

hugznotdrugz · 10/11/2022 13:20

@KKabbalah the op has requested a female so highly unlikely to be a male

Mariposista · 10/11/2022 13:24

I feel for you OP - I find smear tests horribly painful (although not all women do, I am just one of the unlucky few). Same as what PP have said, to the dr a vagina is the same as an arm, leg, throat, ear etc - it's a body part like any other and nothing at all to be embarrassed about.

Hewbean · 10/11/2022 13:28

🌷had to let them have a look when I'd post menopausal bleeding. I'm not usually a shrinking violet but I think everyone does feel nervous about it.

My own speciality is an awkward dismount from the examination table for smears. I keep forgetting they raise it up and I try to get off it before they lower it.

I've hidden the smear test skirt so I don't need to look at it daily 😂

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 10/11/2022 13:29

Good luck op. I had a Mirena fitted recently and a check up to see if all was well. It had to be done.

A different time with the same female doctor, I made an appointment to see her because of vicious thrush. She said she would take a look and I replied 'oh do you really have to?!' She did. It was fine. You will be fine.

sarahc336 · 10/11/2022 13:31

My friend used to have to let her neighbour do her smear tests, we always have a laugh about this 🤣🤣 sorry you're anxious op, you will be ok good luck xx

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 10/11/2022 13:33

Hewbean's post rreminded me of the last time I went to see her for the checkup.
She looked at me and said, 'gosh, you need a little stool' (to get up onto the table). 'You are very small, aren't you. I never noticed before, that you're very small. What height are you?'

I laughed. The small stool was very handy though :)

cushioncovers · 10/11/2022 13:35

Please don't feel anxious about it op doctors see genitalia pretty much every day they work. I worked on a gynaecology ward for years and staff aren't phased by seeing vaginas at all. All they are concerned about is getting the right diagnosis for the patient and then seeing the next patient.

KoalaPineapple · 10/11/2022 13:37

I used to work in a healthcare profession (quit through burn out as is often the case…) where I saw vaginas on a daily basis. I promise I’ve never seen an odd one, I’ve never thought that’s a big bit, that’s a small bit, that’s a smelly bit, that’s a flappy bit or anything and I don’t remember any of them!

schnubbins · 10/11/2022 13:44

I worked as a nurse in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for 13 years .Believe you nobody is discussing any patients vagina either before or after examination , operations , birth or other. It's such a routine that we don't even think about it . We only want the best for everyone .You will be just fine.

My mum's friend from chapel used to do mine! 😳

OP, hope it goes well! They will have seen it all before and will only be concerned with making sure everything is OK.

Summerfun54321 · 10/11/2022 13:48

Just say “I’m feeling anxious about this just to let you know” that’s all. Once you’ve put that out there you will feel relieved and the Dr will know to be extra reassuring.

Pumpkinpatchlookinggood · 10/11/2022 13:49

I went about a lump once. Dr pointed out a scar she could see. 40 + and I never knew!!
You will be fine op.

RoachTheHorse · 10/11/2022 13:50

I had this a few weeks ago. She could not have been nicer and more efficient which was just what I needed. Well done for just doing it.

Rockbird · 10/11/2022 13:54

After birthing a 10lb baby I had fairly severe tears and had a man at the business end, face at close quarters with a miner's lamp on his head and his needle and thread. I don't care about anything after that!
